Challenge Fics

I'm wondering if there's any where on this board where we can post challenges for challenge fics. I'm sorry if there is, but I've got a challenge for someone, and at first glance though this forum I found none. . . . does that make any sense?

Well there are certain fanfics called Challenge fic. This is were someone gives a situation for the fanfic they want writen (and any lines/charaters they particularly want to be included). They post/send the challenge and a writer excepts the challenge and writes the fic.
e.g I might like a fanfic writen about..*thinks*... F'lessan as a child getting lost in a market and I want a F'lar also to be in it.
I've seen it done on a couple of other boards and alot on fanfiction sites. I was just wondering if we had a place for it here.

I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but I have trouble getting started on a story. Once I have the idea, it's usually fine, but getting the idea is tricky.

A challenge might be just what the doctor ordered. :ok:

I think we had a thread in here about challenges a while ago, though not necessarily the same sort. A few ideas were discussed but nothing came of it, might be a good time to revive the idea :)

I'd like someone to write a fic about Menolly's family discovering she's a jounery man harper and their reactions. I would like it set in half-circle hold and Menolly to be there.

It's not quite what you describe, but my story News from the Weyr (http://annemccaffreyfans.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2921) shows Harper Elgion returning to Half-Circle Seahold after the hatching, with the news that Menolly is alive - and is going to the Harper Hall. Reactions first from Alemi, who is overjoyed that she is alive and will be a harper; then from Mavi, who is overcome that she is alive and bewildered that she will be a harper; then from Yanus, who just wants to forget she ever existed. Let me know what you think - there's a thread in the feedback forum, somewhere.

There's one problem that I found with this while skimming through DoP, trying to get a grasp on the timeline. Alemi claims that Menolly never returned to Half-Circle after she left. We could ignore this snippet of info and bring her back to the hold, or we could have two different settings (Harper hall and Half-Circle). What do you think?

One thing that I'm mulling over is that her parents might not have known that she was a journeyman for a long, long time. Considering how long it takes for news to make it to the hold, and considering that they didn't want to know anything about her, Menolly may well have been working toward her mastery before Yanus and Mavi found out.

This is all tentative, of course. Just throwing some ideas against the wall to see what sticks. To tell the truth, using other people's characters makes me a little nervous. I'll do my best not to mangle them too much. :)

We could always ignore the snippet and bring her back ;) :shhh: That snippet was never writen :D :disguise: It's such a minor piece of information that I don't think it matters too much. Her rank wasn't something I thought to much over. I just wasn't 100% sure how long see spend as a jounery wo/man.

I'll still read Brenda's fic, but I was looking for something were Menolly was present. :D

I'm just interested to see someone right the scence and reactions with them all there. I guess location isn't too important. I just thought it might make it more interesting and fun.

She could meant them at the/a Spring festival.

She could also get blown there after going South on a ship, maybe one of the times that she was pregnant, so couldn't fly between.

BTW, if anyone else is interested in this, too, I say go for it. I'd be interested to see how the stories would differ, and how they would be the same.

Well, I may have a few here:

- Write a story from Jora's point of view.

- Write a story about whers(old type or 'Dragonskin' type).

- What if Lessa had died when she tried to go back in time to bring the Weyrs forwards to the Ninth Pass?

- What if a pernese encountered an extraterrestrial?

- What if Menolly had Impressed?

- What if Thella had became the first female Lord Holder?

- What if Fax never died?

Sorry, J Merc, but I'm afraid it has. I tried, but it always morphed into my own story, which had absolutely nothing to do with yours. :blush: It's rather embarrassing to admit, but I have a one-track mind.

I once speculated on the consequences of Menolly somehow Impressing the gold dragon that Brekke was presented to and that Talina actually Impressed. I tried to think of the reactions - that a stranger would Impress, that she would be discovered to be Petiron's apprentice but, having Impressed a dragon, that she could not be a harper. I eventually changed from having her Impress the queen, to having a scenario where Jaxom does NOT jump down and break open the little egg left unhatched, and where Menolly, being the last one in the Hatching Ground, is persuaded by her fire lizards to go take a second look...

OK, you wanted a challenge, so you've got one!

Check out my latest pic in the Art forum, here (http://annemccaffreyfans.org/forum/showthread.php?p=426392#post423458), and come up with a story for it. What are they looking at? Is she restraining or reassuring the unicorn? There's plenty of potential in there.

To make it obvious which fics are based on the pic, though, (and they need to be posted in the pic forum, not in here) include the girl's name, Suli. You can call the unicorn whatever you like ;)

I'm not going to put a word limit on it, but 200,000 word novels might be a bit much from one pic ;)
