And what better place than back in the poll forum... With a poll of course!

Want to get back down by that half stone and thena bit more but figure it's almost pointless trying until the New Year and a freedom from nibbles, chocolates and general bad-for-you stuff that appears everywhere during the festive season.
Come January, I'll really need a boost from yoou guys though... Hope it's not just thee and me Faren! No offense!

I need to lose between 80 and 100 pounds. That's almost enough for one entire person, so added to Shazza's that's two complete new bodies.

I nearly always lose weight around the holidays (between working, and having to help my grandparents with cooking/shopping etc) and my Dr. says this year I'm healthier than ever before. I'm not anemic anymore....but I have no more energy now, than I did when I WAS anemic. I know I need to drop about 25 lbs...and just getting off my rear would do it. But gosh...I just can't get motivated. Anyone wanna yell at me every day and MAKE me do it? LOL

I'm here to be the backup don't-go-too-far motivation: I weigh 81 pounds at five feet tall and am developing osteoporosis before even finishing high school.
Being very small is VERY BAD.
Do NOT lose TOO MUCH.
... however, I've never been average size, and the most I've ever weighed is 86, when I'd been eating a lot due to being out more and needing more energy. I've never tried to lose weight, because I've never needed to -- but I'm constantly trying to gain.
So. This is my mini-rant for people who go "You're soooo skinny, I'm so jealous" -- I just want to smack EVERY SINGLE SOUL who does that, because it's really unpleasant, kthx. :D
Good luck in the losing!

One of the girls I grew up with was like that. Her metabolism was all whacked out, and she was thin almost to gauntness ...and when people would say "I'm jealous"...Jo would say "I'll trade you this size for ten pounds"
She finally managed to gain weight... her metabolism altered when she got pregnant the first time. I find her to be beautiful now.... 5'3" and 125 pounds.

I see a few backs I shall have to climb onto come January!
I too am aiming to enjoy the festivities and then buckle down again in the New Year! I've not gained a great deal but enough for me to want to get rid again, plus a little extra this time! My aim will be 10st 7lb clothed this time, three pound less than last year! I should only have about a stone to loose?
For those who think that it doesn't matter what we look like in cyberspace, I wholeheartedly agree! This is a space for those who want to do something for themselves, not the Kitchen Table. If we can support them along, then great :D I'm not asking for personal descriptions of photographic evidence of weight loss myself! I merely want others to have a chance to share their better weight loss tips and offer encouragement and support to those who want ot make a change for themselves! :bouncy:

I'd like to join the support group... do you leave it here in the polls forum or does it go to the lounge or somewhere else~ I dont remember seeing it on the WAM, but then I wasnt super serious about loosing weight either ;) now im a little more serious about it... Doc's been trying to get me down for years..
but we keep disagreeing on the best type of diet... personally im tweeking towards a combo of South Beach and Hobbiton Diets... I refuse to give up my Elevenses~ :tilt: he keeps giving me these boring no fat no flavor diets..
I think im winning the argument with him tho.. we did a bunch of blood workups reciently to double check things like, thyroid, Blood Sugar, Chloresertrol, Anemia and Blood Pressure~ everything.... EVERYTHING!... came back normal~ Doc was shocked~ She expected a bit more trouble in the chlorestertrol (sp kablooey) cause I prefer the SB type diets~ but my bad number was good and my good number acceptable~

I did pretty well on South Beach for a while, but heading back to w*rk this fall really made a mess of that. The biggest problem is that I visit each of my students and their families once each week -- and one lives next door to the most wonderful Amish bakery with fantastic pies. I really can't seem to avoid that place -- especially since the house is located on a 4-lane highway with concrete medial barrier and the only way to leave is to pass the bakery. I guess that's the operative word and I'll need to learn to pass it (though must wait until the new year, since I'm in charge of the pies for family Christmas get-together and have ordered them from there).
In regards to looks not mattering on the internet:
A month or so ago our agency offered a special "wellness checkup" in which we each had to fill out a lengthy survey about lifestyle and undergo a mini-exam with bloodwork. Mine came back stating that I'm basically healthy -- except for not eating enough veggies and fruits (I was honest about that point in time, not looking back to two months before when I was eating healthy foods), living with secondhand smoke, and my weight. It kept coming back to that -- lose some weight and the smokers in your life and live longer! So it's not a matter of how we look but how healthy we are. Let's face it, most of us spend too much time sitting in front of computers, so we need that extra push to move away and take care of ourselves.
As to the question -- yes, Jayson, shall we keep this in the poll forum or move it elsewhere when we start with our weight loss campaign? My vote would be to move it elsewhere.

Wulfin,
Take a wander over to WW site here in Aus. http://www.weightwatchers.com.au/WWI_WrapperHome2.aspx?SiteId=3&Page=1023372 They have a noticeboard set up and I have noticed a number of topics containing reference to PCOS. I'm here for motivation, to not gain back weight!
For those trying to lose: walk. Walk walk walk! In the space of 2 years, I lost more than 50lbs, without significantly altering my diet (maybe smaller portions, but I didn't drop any food groups--my doctor is not toally against SB, though he is against Atkins, but his major thing for the majority of dieters, that is those who don't have metabolic problems, is portion control). I did it by walking absolutely anywhere I could. This summer I probably had MORE goodies than usual and still got another 20 lbs off--I'm now at 135, 3lbs lighter than my best high school weight. And it's all thanks to walking. (Well, and not being on a corticosteroid, which is how I went from an uncomfortable college weight of 155 to 185 after grad school.)
Now is the winter of my discontent, though--it's now way too cold to spend much time outside, and 'tis the season to have fattening goodies. Must...not...overdo...cookies. Cookies are my downfall, and there are so many good ones this time of year! I mail them away, and people mail new ones to me! Aieeee!

I wouldn't mind if this got moved to the lounge either. BTW, last week's weigh-in, I gained another pound. So that's 4 pounds (16 sticks of butter  ) I've put back on from my lowest weight loss.
I'm not weighing this week. :disguise: Think I'll be like everyone else and wait until after the holidays. And then there's that ski trip where I also won't be watching what I eat...I can justify that as I'll be increasing the exercise level.
Anareth, you are absolutely right about walking. Now that I'm no longer smoking, it's time to start that exercise program I keep putting off.

I'm definitely "in". I'd like to lose about 20 pounds. I'm trying to be a bit more careful this holiday season as well. My biggest problem I think is soda. I love Coke, and the sweeteners in diet sodas are "yuck" to me. I've tried all the diet ones, so it's no good. I can go for a while creating my own fizzy drinks with fruit juice and seltzer, but then I just really want a Coke. Waaaaah!

As to starting an exercise program, do it now! I quit smoking in 1995, and started putting on weight. Before that, I was starting to look healthy (yes, in my younger years I suffered from anorexia). Do it before being heavy becomes too much of a habit!

I have a target of three and a half stones that I'd like to see gone. (I nearly said 'put behind me', but my beam-end is big enough already.)

I'd start a new poll for this, but there are entirely too many possibilities: What diet or plan or whatever do each of you intend to use?
Last year I had good luck with South Beach: it gave me a good start and wasn't overly restrictive, especially after the first two weeks. My big problem is remembering "moderation." Yes, it allows treats, but I find myself easily crossing the line between occasional and continual.
In addition, I need an exercise program, and not just for weight loss -- I can feel how much stiffer my body is now that I haven't been exercising. I've retired the Treadmill from Hell. After all, with as much as I loathed that thing, it was rather self-defeating. Instead, I hope to buy a recumbent bike (something I've been wanting -- I like biking but can't do it year-round here) and alternate that with Pilates (my son bought me a ball and bands for my birthday, so I really should use them).

I don't have any particular diet in mind, just counting the calories and more exercise (OK actually doing some exercise). Well not quite a kick up the you know what ;) but a bit of support to help me lose, like Ian, about 50 pounds. Which is very do-able at 1-2 pounds a week.
I've been going to WW for about 15 years  and every time I go back I've put on more weight :( In fact my first "goal" this time is to lose enough weight to get me at one of my starting points a few years ago - thats 20 pounds.
But I know it can be done, I've been half way there - many times.
Although I haven't had much success lately I've still been going to my meeting on Thursday lunchtimes and intend to do so, work permitting, this week and next.
So gang, count me in and I hope neelie doesn't feed me too much over the break - as if ;) But I'll have to stop drinking too much of the Baileys

*Wishes all the posters well with their plans* Hooray for us...the first step is taken...we've made a public announcement.
Me...I need to drop 20-25 lbs. Admit retirement made me "lazy" when it came to exercise (when I worked, I exercised 5 days/week in my company fitness facility).
My biggest worry is hubbie, though...he was diagnosed with diabetes (type 2, thankfully) two years ago, and this year they discovered he has 2 leaky (minor) heart valves. One of the BIG side effects of diabetes is heart disease. He has been told by 2 doctors and 1 dietician that he MUST exercise at least 30 min. a day (get his heart rate up) 5 days a week. (Now ask me if he does!!!! ) However, he has FINALLY asked me about joining my gym when we get back from Florida!!!!! and he plans on walking a lot down there. Let's hope he means it...as he needs to lose about 40 lbs.
As to diets, his one doctor says one of the healthiest diets to follow is a diabetic's diet, because it is so balanced and controlled. It is low fat, low sodium and low carb...but not so low in carbs that you develop problems, just watch your portions and eat the "good" carbs...whole wheat breads, pasta (that's if you can stand it...I can't), beans, etc. This is pretty much the diet we use (but I have cheated badly this year..comfort junk food). Its all about "exchanges". He's allowed 12 carb exchanges per day (15 grams of carbs = one exchange), 3 fruits. His biggest meal is breakfast, with a lesser lunch and a light dinner. Two snacks per day are permitted, usually the fruit here. Veggies - he can eat a lot (except for corn, lima beans, peas and carrots and winter squash - they count as a carb....and I'll serve those in place of potatoes, rice, pasta with another veggie like broccoli, asparagus or green beans).
......and we were VERY good over the holiday.... :-D I think he's lost a bit already...not sure about me yet!!!
Maybe his (or should I say our!!) diet would be of help to someone.

I read a great tip last night on the WW forums.
One of the girls uses a reward technique that goes something like this:
At the beginning of each month you get 31 coins (or 30 or 28 depending on the month). Then for every day you stick to the diet you put one one dollar coin in a jar. (Do the Americans still have dollar bills? This still works). Anyway, at the end of the month you get to spend the money you have in the jar. I intend to take this a step further and get double that amount. Then I will put one coin in for each day I don't bust out and another for each day I exercise. Even if I walk the dog for 30 mins that will still count. And Trinket will be thrilled. The coins left over each month you just add to to start up the following month's reward system.
Faren
27th December 2004, 08:07 AM
Shazza, that's a great idea about the reward system. :ok:
I'm not going to start seriously though until after I get back from vacation which will be at then end of January. In the meantime though, I'm going to be better than I've been these last few weeks.

I'm here mostly for support, if I lose a few pounds along the way. that's all well and good.
After being diagnosed with diabetes (type 2) I changed my entire way of eating. You know those 4 - 6 small meals that Ann Marie mentioned? That was a great part of it. I'm down about 50 lbs from my peak weight. I'm at a plataeu. I can live with that, as long as none is regained, I still count that as a victory. (admits she can stand to lose another 70 pounds or so)
Loss can be done, it's the maintaining it that's truly difficult. Too many reach thier goal then backslide. I'll be here to push you back!
Ok and here's something else that may help... http://groups.msn.com/ClanFiend/healthiereatingrecipes.msnw
I'll add a few more recipes out of my diabetic cookbooks, and if everyone contributes and shares healthy recipes, we can make dieting a bit easier and more enjoyable for everyone.

Indeed, Weight Watchers I and Faren, and Butterball...
I can't recal which others were in play! I've heard someone mention the South Beach Diet (not sure exactly what this is? Sand?) and the Hobbinton was it? Eat only fantasy food or something?
Hmmmm.

No violence should be necessary, but the support would be nice. Add me to the January list too. I'm going to try the South Beach diet and walking for starters. I'd like to lose 50-65 by summer's end.

okay another one here to lose and to support!
Wulfin, I have pcos too as well as type 2 diabetes.
I have lost 30 pounds in the last 6 months but I seem to have hit a plateau. I was 338 before we moved from washington state. I'm stuck at 308lbs and I need to get down to 130lbs so I am going to be losing almost 180lbs total. I need tons of help and support because I am addicted to food in a major way. The only way I've been able to lose as much as I have is because I'm more active (Yonuh's mom runs me into the ground shopping) and there's less food. sometimes I'll go the whole day without eating or even needing to until I realize I'm a little shaky and lightheaded from low blood sugar. I count those as the good days because I'm not obsessing about if there is food around and if my stomach is going to get empty before I get home.
so count me and Yonuh's mom in on this losing thing.

I've already drawn up my charts for starting this. I have the colums for weight, and inches of bust, abs, waist, hips, thigh and upper arm. Once a week, I'll weigh in and check all the messurements. I'm mostly concerned with the inches, because toned muscle weighs more than flab...
After Saturday, I'll post my goals.

Maybe it isn't realistic, but it would help ME a lot if someone could post, actually maybe a couple posts, explaining the basics of the South Beach diet, Atkins, Hobbiton, and any others we might want to look into. I would have a hard time with doing any of the really regimented measure everything to the ounce type things. I do better just cutting out all the things I know put weight on me, and giving myself a treat occasionally. My problem is when I'm under any kind of stress I turn immediately to something yummy and fattening. I REALLY like the reward idea. I could use the money at the end of a month to buy a CD or book, or new cross stitch pattern! :ok: That I will definitely be trying come Jan. 1.

Well, as far as Weight Watchers...I can give a bit of info. I joined online so I never went to a group meeting, but this is what happens. You have an initial weight/height entered. Then you have a goal weight. You are assigned a daily point value. Each day you can eat whatever you want as long as you don't go over the point value. As a bonus...you have 35 "extra" points you can use during each week so if you feel like having a few drinks on Friday night, that's ok. If you follow this system, you should lose 2-3 pounds per week.
Each food has a point value. From what I was able to figure out, 1 point is approximately 50 calories.
Also, you are encouraged to drink a lot of water and of course, exercise. As a matter of fact, exercise is assigned a point value too. So for example...say you have a 25 point per day limit and you earn 2 points for exercise of some sort, then that day you can eat 27 points worth.
It's a very easy diet to follow, and I lost 25 pounds this past year pretty painlessly.
Of course, I've gained about 5 pounds back in the past couple of months.

Let me "weigh in" on this topic......I agree that WW is a very easy and flexible eating plan to follow. I started in November but got gobsmacked by the holidays - my relatives believe in eating and sitting, in either order. I want to lose a bunch of weight, but I really want to be healthier too. I don't have major problems, but want to avoid them. I will be going back to WW in January.
I'd take a kick in the derriere come Jan 1 also, Jay!

Two days ago I looked at how much weight I need to lose and named it. My extra 40 kilos (88 lb) is now called Freeloader Fred. He has been hanging around me for the past 13 years and making more and more a pain of himself. He indulges in fatty foods and is a lazy sod and I am sick of lugging him around. Fred has been given his marching orders and I plan to begin eviction come January 1. See if you can come up with names for your love handles. I like it because I can externalise the issue and hopefully that will make it easier to deal with.
So look out Freeloader Fred, Shazza is getting into butt kicking position.
Oh I also created a picture of Fred but can't add it here. If you would like to see the ugly sod pm me your email addy and I will send him to you. Be warned though, I used a pretty foul name on the file. Hey, it was appropriate.

I've looked at several diets and the biggest drawback for me is I will NOT cook or buy a different meal just for me. I need a diet that lets me eat the same food as the rest of the family at the same time. I've got a friend who went on a special diet and she ended up eating in a different room so she couldn't see what her family was having. So far, the WW seems to be the most popular diet, any suggestions?

Doctor's recommend Weight Watchers or the diabeties menu more often than any other program out there...
the Hobbiton diet is a joke reference to eating habbits of Hobbits... Breakfast, second breakfast, elevensees, lunchen, tea, dinner/supper, snack.
Adkins and South Beach are both cut down/out sugar and carbs for 2 weeks to crash your system into loosing.. then slowly adding just a bit of each unill you've hit the weight loss area you want.... SB is more generous with the fruits and some carbs.. SB also maintains that if your body is truly craving it (dink a glass of water first and see if craving returns) then by all means eat a bit of it~ better a bite or two now than the whole blessed thing later~
WW~ get's expensive, and if you buy the meal thingys.. watch your sodum..(retains water,,, seems to weigh more~)
Jerry promotes excercise and eating Subway Sandwiches~ Popular advertizement here in America~
if you have a used book seller anywhere near you read the different diet books.. You have to pick a plan that suits your lifestyle with minimum hassel.. cause if it is a hassel,, you'll walk away from it sooner~
Mausey... how would your family know if they were eating 'diet' food? lots of the newer recipies now-a-days taste great and many of the fat/sugar subtitutes are very passable.. and if you serve a couple of extra vegies and pass on the roll for yourself (or eat one little one) would they notice??
Years ago I had a hubby that insisted that I go on diets to loose weight, but by the end of 3 days wanted to know where all of his goodies were (homebakes) He couldnt grasp the Idea that I needed to be away from them for a bit...
;) you dont have to lead me into temptation..... I can find it all by myself~
Nurianna
29th December 2004, 10:56 PM
woops... forgot to list my plan...
Im not going to diet... I hate buying extra foods and I hate measuring portions.. I am going to start a food diary, small notebook to tuck into my purse and have with me all the time... I like the avoidance of extra sugars and breads so that will be my first goal..... poor chocolate... it's gonna get a bit lonely on the shelf....
and im going back to Belly dancing classes~ I loved them.. and as big as I am the non-impact movements get my heartrate moving just fine~
I'll use a Walmart scale (pay a quarter and get your weight and lucky lotto numbers, they also register up to 450 or 500# which im not there yet~) this weekend to get my starter number and get my measurements too..
Im also going to invite my active daughter to join me... (she has a couple of jelly rolls she wants to loose track of)
Are we going to posts starts here as well as progresses? (this way we'll have multi-cheering squads~)

There may be other folk who've not made their request for a kick start quite as clear though :sorry:
Not a bad selection of Diet'eers though! between us, we could end up with a hefty loss
I suggest that those who're comfortable to do so, give us a running score of how much they've lost week to week and totalled including how they've gone about loosing. Give ideas and info from any plan you're following or just what you've made up yourself.
I like the rewards idea, anything like that will really inspire others
If anyone wants to also add in their starting weight and goal, please feel free. This is not mandatory but I did so last year and toinspire me to actually reach the goal weight, which I did!
Finally, if a Host would be so kind as to throw this thread in the direction of the lounge come January 1st? I think we're generally happy to go into the limelight on this...?
Cheers!
Enjoy New Years Eve y'all... After that, it's time to tighten the reigns!

I have sent you my details, Prek. I must add the page looks fantastic. Thank you.
The wagon came by to collect me first thing this morning. Did the dreaded weigh in. You can see the results when Prek posts them in our chart for me. Things weren't as grim as I had suspected so I have to be happy with that. Had a lovely healthy breakfast this morning of a baked bean jaffle and a banana and as soon as I finish surfing the forums I am taking the mutt for a walk.
Another tool that the WW site forums introduced me to was this. http://www.myvirtualmodel.com/mvmhome/jsp/home.jsp?
Here you can put your goal weight onto a model and get an idea of how you will look. It's obviously not going to be perfect but it is for an idea only. I have run this a number of times and saved pics of virtual Shazza for every 5 kilos I will lose. Gonna print them out and stick them up all over my house or into a scrapbook or something. It's a fun tool. Have fun playing with it.

I have got to lose weight this year and I know I need help and support. I would like to be 2 stones less. I am to have a trip to Canada and reconstructive surgery in 2005, both good reasons for less food and more excercise. Can I just finish the Baileys and preserved ginger first. :)

1st January 2005, 12:08 PM
Go ahead and finish them, Cameo -- last night I finished off the package of Hershey's peppermint Swoops and had the last bowl of cookies and mint ice cream with Cool Whip (ok, it was fat free ice cream and lite topping, but still. . .) This morning I had my weigh-in, took measurement, stared at myself in the mirror saying "Ewwwwww. . ." and am now officially on my way!
And Shaz, that link is pretty good -- I rather like the way I look in my finished one, and even the models along the way are far more acceptable than what I saw in the mirror (which was fairly accurate).
I have a few entries on the webpage, have decided to have weights in lb/kg, so that everyone can have a fairly good understanding of who's losing what. To do this, I used this handy-dandy conversion tool (http://www.sciencemadesimple.net/EASYweight.html), though I'll gladly do the conversions before placing them onsite.
I think I'll wander over to the Lounge and post a thread, see if we can guilt anyone else into joining!

Hi Lois! I added you to our Loser's Club page (http://wltstuff.vexingvixen.net/losersclub.html). I just need to know your starting date and weight loss plan.
Update on my plan:
Saturday -- exercised (Pilates); food intake ok until late afternoon when I met a friend for movie and supper out -- yes, I order soup and sandwich but should have chose a clear soup instead of cream of broccoli, not eaten the garlic bread, and passed on the hot fudge sundae with mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Sunday -- another Pilates workout; stuck to eating plan :ok:
Monday -- started out well, but first day back to work and didn't have time to exercise before leaving. I figured I'd fall off the wagon at lunch, since I was scheduled for a meeting that included sending out for pizza. Instead, meeting cancelled, sent to afternoon training, ate only string cheese for lunch. In afternoon had to stop at Amish produce stand/store for eggs, lentils, milk -- couldn't resist the mini-lemon pie. I did go home and do a 30-minute workout, but did it even make up for the pie?
Tuesday -- so far, so good: healthy breakfast, 40-minute workout, and salad packed for lunch.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to delay my start :( since I haven't seen daylight or fresh air for nearly a week - not flu but a very bad cold and lingering deep seated cough which has kept me off work and food.
Hopefully, because I haven't been eating much, the weight gain will be limited - and I was good over the holiday period too - but it also means I haven't been able to excercise either !!
I'll go get the new programme next week and have a proper Weigh In and report on Thursday 13th.

I was definitely in need of one, though I have been trying to cook instead of imbibe at the Taco Bell/Jack In The Box/Weinerschnitzel down the street, I need to get my heiny in gear and out of the house for a bit of work. Mowing out postage stamp lawn that has become a jungle due to all the rain we've gotten may be a good start - we have only an old fashioned push mower - but once that is done I need to keep going.
Has anyone got any suggestions on how to make treadmill time more interesting? I get so bored that I can only convince myself to do it for a couple days before it drives me back to inactivity.

books on tape or CD might be a good option. I know some people have a TV in front of their exercise equipment, but the tv is even more boring (most of the time) than nothing at all to me. I suppose if you had a DVD or tape player you could watch a movie. How about listening to some good, rousing music!?

I like the Nekked Loosers Unite theme.... but as I weigh in on a public scale, the only Nekked thing will be my feet~ (I'll remove my shoes~)
I went to the conversion page... and look Im only 165!! (shhhhh you know it's Kg's but my brain is really happy now!)
I'll be doing my weigh in's on Monday mornings~ on my way to work~

I just sent you my information. It is pounds not kg.

After a long day without internet access (:irked: -- I'll probably vent about that in the WLT), I've updated the page -- added bisb and Nurianna's info, Marie's diet type, weight loss to-date (thank you, Jayson), and the alternate title.
Marie, when I was using the Treadmill from H*ll, I watched MTV or VH1 -- but that was at 6 a.m., which is just about the only time they show music videos. Your cable system might offer better choices.
In addition, I set smaller goals for myself with little ways to get through the work-out. A typical session (I didn't get too far beyond 20 minutes):
2 minutes at brisk walk
1 - 1 1/2 minutes, brisk walk, swinging weight in right hand
1 - 1 1/2 minutes, left hand
1 - 1 1/2 minutes, repeat right hand
1 - 1 1/2 minutes, repeat left hand
2 minutes, no weights
repeat the rotation with weights
2 minutes, no weights
2 minutes, with higher speed
gradually back down speed, in 2 minute increments to cool down
I don't remember what speeds I used, but it was certainly far from running!

Gained ten kilo's when I quit smoking, lost two automatically. :)
But... I am 1.68 meters and always weighed in at 63 kilo's. In my mind (I am NOT looking at any charts or whatever) I am allowed to weigh my lenght over a meter: 68 kilo's. I'm now usually between 71 and 73, so should lose about 5 kilo's.
I don't do anything for it though. It's all accumulating at the tummy but then, I'm a 47 year old male (who like his alcohol especially).
To strengthen that tummy and lose some kilo's magically without doing anything for it... advise anyone? :)

Thanks Shazza! That site was really unnerving and yet I couldn't stop myself from checking a lot of numbers!! I also printed out different pictures.

That's a new height/weight ratio; never heard of that one before. It just so happens that we are the same height, which makes my ideal weight just what I want it to be, 150lbs. I'm starting from over 90kg though. :erm:

I've gained a lot back but not all of it.
I don't have a set diet. My biggest pitfall is I plain don't LIKE the food that's good for you.(salads etc)
So I just did portion control and I drink a slimfast for lunch.

Climbed onto the scales this morning and it still got up to 14:4 :erm: so I didn't do so well this week. It's the stairs for you, my boy. I work on the seventh floor of our building, but there are 24 steps between floors so this coming week I'll be getting off at the sixth and walking the rest. I already walk down the stairs going home. I lost 10lb in the two months before Christmas just by walking down the stairs. Every little helps.

Part of this, admittedly, was bloat. But I am up to walking twice a day on most days, and I've cut the amount of soda I drink, replacing it mostly with water. And of course, this week, cleaning the snow off the car and walks can only help! :D

I'm not going for weight loss, but I am going for top physical fitness. I've been working out for 45 minutes to an hour each weekday, starting this week. Speaking of weight loss... I have lost 3 pounds already. I'm stiff and sore.

I found this today, it was the title that attracted me and it's in the lounge, so your move and rename has been a good thing.
I would like to be a late joiner in the weight loss campaign. In 2004 I lost 20 kgs (approx 44 pounds) and dropped three dress sizes. I would like to lose another 20 - 25 kg and I am not in a hurry to do it. I have achieved this so far by being on a low GI/Diabetics diet (I am not a diabetic, but it is healthy eating). My husband has also lost considerable weight on this diet and he has lost 8 inches from his tummy and looks so much better (MMREOWGRRR). Anyway, we are both maintaining this diet. Jeff has lost all he needs to and is a little more relaxed about it, but it is so easy to follow. The great thing is, I simply don't feel hungry any more.
We went out for dinner tonight and I was looking at the desserts in the display case before eating and though I am going to treat myself to cheesecake. Guess what, had trouble finishing my main and couldn't face dessert. This really isn't dieting, it is simply life style and so easy to do.
I will maintain doing my yoga and walking every day and continue getting healthier and fitter a little at a time.
This is the support website I go to for low GI stuff and there are some great ideas in their forum. The recipe books are fantastic, with a great variety of stuff. It is very similar to Atkins in some ways, but not as brutal or as hard to maintain. http://www.low-carbohydrate.com/index.html
Please let me sign up to the family of losers.

I just spotted this one, so I'll jump. :) I'm looking to lose between 20-30 pounds... I checked out the chart page too... One thing you may want to add is height and BMI... I can calculate BMI's if needed, which can give a guide to healthy weight goals.
For my diet, I'm following a program of smaller portions, increased frequency... using "clean foods" (non processed junk - added to what I grow or forage here). The increased frequency allows my metabolism to work with me, instead of against me... no more highs and lows in blood sugar levels (eating 6 times, instead of 3 squares). That means getting quality protein sources, "good combinations" (long cooking oatmeal and a nuked egg white go quite well for a breakfast) that allow for the quick rise in blood sugar when needed, then the slower burning stuff to get me through the day. Drink lots of water, excersize (I've joined a volleyball league, and trail run), combined with mild weight training and some martial arts popped in there for variety. We'll see how it goes... My big problem is motivation... AMD I have a major weakness for Mountain Dew...
My Stats are:
Name: Stacy (Sbrock)
height: 5'10
weight: 165#
BMI: 24
Target 135#ish (BMI: 19-20)
I tend to fluctuate wildly during the day for weight... I was probably something like 168# this morning, I've been down as low as 159# (165 being the average low)... that's a daily range... I'm assuming I just retain that much of the water I drink...

Ok, just a few things:
1) I've been checking the thread and pulling out info to post on the webpage (as long as I had the member's go-ahead to include him/her on the page), but I'd prefer to receive PMs, particularly telling me current weigh-in weight and weight lost in the past week (with those two pieces of info, I can doublecheck my stats for you)
2) I've added S'brock to the page -- at least what info was provided. I still need starting date, and for now I've listed your diet type as EL/EM, unless you can come up with a simple yet more descriptive abbreviation.
3) I've added height and BMI, so if any of you want to send those to me, I'll use them. I also found a site to calculate BMI's: http://nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm
4) While I have no problem adding more people to the chart, there are several for whom I have no stats, though I've PM'd them. Any names without starting info will be deleted in a day or two.

i do spend a lot of time on the computer but when i go anywhere i walk (unless it is more than 2.5 miles to get to the destination) the bus costs here (Keele) are extortionat to get into the town down the hill so i have taken to walking that far and only catching he bus to go to Hanley. so not to bad fitness wise and i do eat a lot of vegetables. in stews and as a side to my main eatable so that is healthy too. my serious flaw is that i like chocolate and nuts too much.

Well, not really. I absolutely have to stop the last remnants of my smoking, too. And also gain about two stone in order to be an average weight for my height (needless to say, South East Asia is not the best place to do this, although gym membership is cheap).

Have just PM'd my info to Prekharper :)
Basically though I have been  and off work since Xmas I haven't been weighed properly at Weight Watchers.
But.... on my visit to the doctors yesterday, to confirm the chemists opinion that I had a Chest Infection rather than a very bad cough, I asked her to weigh me. I have lost about 5 pounds since 23rd December mostly because I haven't been eating properly - I may put some back on as my appetite is coming back
Hopefully, even though I have a doctors note not to go to work :D, I will go to WW on Thursday or Friday and get weighed properly, I don't really trust my own scales - they weigh different depending on which room you're in

Prek! - What an excellent job! The site looks great and the links're super! A lot of work must've gone in so you deserve some appreciation...? Well, you've got it  <--- Note, I rarely bow to anyone!
Now, having been utterly appauling last Saturday night, but thoroughly enjoying being so of course, I had a battle on my hands on the Sunday to rectify some damage... Up to the Friday, I had lost four pounds! I reckoned this was not going to be so on the Monday but I swam again, stuck rigidly to points and drank plenty of water...
Monday's weight = 11st 7.5lb... A total loss of not 2.5lb as the Losers page may suggest but in fact, 3lb! Confused? Well, I managed to give Prek the wrong info at the start! I was 11st 10.5lb, or 164.5lb a week and a bit ago!
Well, anyway! Four pound became three but it's still a decent loss I suppose? Would have liked more of course!
Anyway, that was then! This is now Wednesday and I can declare my official weight loss to the Naked Losers United as: 5lb total! Indeed, I am a mere 11st 5.5lb this morning and I shall be winging those figures to Prek shortly...

The centers feature hi and low impact arobics, water arobics, weight training, specialty toning on one area and they have a pool, sauna, jaquzie(sp~) and steam room. I'm excited about the steam room~ I love them!
so I'm going in on Sunday after spending friday night and saturday day & night at DeConPression~ a sci fi/fantasy/horror/gamer's "relaxacon" (adult only) I had to miss last year because of Ice storms... this year I hope to get there before it gets too cold~ lol! Yes I'll be eating and drinking a few, probably not so good things for me,,, but I'll also be walking and dancing a lot more than is humanly allowed for me (snicker) so sunday that swim and steam room are going to be verrrrry appreciated~ :D

I did exercise last night. I came home from work and hubby had drawn up a chart and had it on the notice board where we each had to put up our three exercise thingies per week and he had already done the first exercise bit. So I had to do it too. :)

Ate really well yesterday and was virtually spot on with points! +5 points.
Drunk 2 litres of water yesterday! +5 points.
Drank a bottle of wine yesterday! -5 points.
It's evens on at the minute...

Weighed myself this am, clothed, and was pleasantly suprised! Could be looking at a good weight loss this week indeed! I was less clothed than I was naked on Wednesday and it's only Friday  Gotta be good for the weekend though. Aiming to not drink alcohol tonight! Going to check out the points on J²0... Probably just as much!
Also, planning on having chicken kebab tonight (5pts) which isn't too bad but I just know I'll be weak and order the onion rings  and the Chips 'n' cheese :faint: too!

Actually, I love sewing, and making things. I just don't always stick to the program.

After talking it over with my doc, who thinks it's about time I decided to loose weight, she suggested, because I loose very slowly, to weigh myself once a month. We shall she if her idea works.

Changes posted for IanSF, AnnMarie, and Mary -- congrats!
And now my confession:
I had a really miserable week diet-wise. Yes, I exercised 6 of 7 days (go me!), but I can't say that I followed my diet on a single day. As a result, I gained back the 2 pounds I lost. *hangs head in shame*
I've been using SB, but jumped straight into phase 2, since I had been on the diet before. It seems that I should go back, spend the next 2 weeks in phase 1 (think total deprivation of any goodies, sort of a detox for the sugary cravings of my body), and then move on.
Sorry for bringing down the stats. :sorry:

Can't weigh in as I'm not near a scale...and I'm very afraid of the results. I have had SUCH a good time eating here on vacation (no I won't tell you about the chocolate fondue! :disguise: ). Anyway, I'll have a few days after I get home to starve and try and bring the weight down. Yay to everyone who has lost, and I know just how you feel to those that gained.:hugs:

Gained a pound this week. However, we went out to eat 3 times (most unusual for us) so I think that's what did it. I'll try harder next week!

Haven't weighed "officially" - that's tomorrow morning at the gym - but weighed last night and was down some, so I'm hoping that holds through. :crossesfingers: For Prekharper and Priscilla and anyone else who gained, I offer a :hugs:. Hang in there!

Change of plan to the exercise plan. Made three floors before taking the lift. Felt a bit like a wimp only climbing one floor so I carried on till I got out of breath, then kept to that all week. Result at last! Who knows what this week will bring?

Things that seem to be working for ME:
Walking... I walk nearly every morning and evening
Small meals several times a day rather than three large ones
Drinking 6 ozs of Orange Juice every morning
Adding more fruit to my diet

A few blips I notice this week... A little gaining here and there but not a worry... We just get back on track and make the new week count! :hugs: And I'm not going to blame anyone for bringing the stats down...
...YET! :darkside:
Personally, had a disapointing weigh in on Monday but hoping for better when I weigh again for this sit on Wednesday! Seemed sensible to stick to the same day for here each week!
Earned extra brownie points by booking a 'STEP class' Will get even more brownie points if I go...
Shall let y'all know how I've done tomorrow...
Keep your pekkers up! We're still new to this! Keep trying and it'll all fall into place!

I have remained stable this week. No loss, no gain. I did say I wanted to do this slowly so it would stay off, but I hope I will be able to say I lost weight next week.
Cheers

Darn it! :irked:
A mere 1.5lb down this week! Total loss, 6.5lb... Not yet managed to reach that half stone point!
But then, I've got my first STEP class in about an hour or so...
Maybe I should've weighed in after that?

A friend sent me this parody of a classic christmas poem 'cause she knows I'm dieting~
gotta laugh, which burned at least 30 calories~ :hopping:
'Twas the week after Christmas, and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibble, the eggnog I'd taste
All the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales, there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).
I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared...
The wine and the rumballs, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to battle the dirt...
I said to myself, as I only can
"You can't spend a winter dressed like a man!"
So...away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
'Till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie, not even a lick,
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or cornbread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore...
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot

Well, my new plan is to walk half an hour a day on our treadmill. Today was day one. Maybe that will help, combined with giving up everything I like! Loved the poem, Nurianna

I am very frustrated. I wanted to start right after Christmas, go to meetings, and really get going. Then I took that show job and feel totally snowed. I can't go to meetings yet because of the timing of them - I'm at rehearsal. I am happy you are all doing well. :applause: Oh well. My show will be done and then I can get going Feb. 1. Right now when I get home I eat what's handy and fall into bed, because I'm pretty tired. Well one week to go and then I can concentrate on that!
