This is just something I wrote today and decided to share with you.

Marks Of Life
I look at my scars and callouses
And remember where each came from
I remember the life that led to them
The path down which I've come

The memory of how I got each one
is as clear as the light of day
Indications of the path I took
Like signposts along the way

The first of many marks
Is the scar upon my chin
Made when I played as a child
Back when I was still thin

Then I look at my most recent one
It looks a really ugly sight
An oval burn mark on my arm
Where I caught it on the light

But I bear each one with pride
In the knowledge of having lived well
And I'll probably gather many more
Before I get to the last farewell.

That is lovely, Ilona; and made me stop and look at the couple of "marks" I have - a permanent scar that I got on my left index finger from a jagged oyster shell, that permanently altered my fingerprint. And, the "slice" between my nose and upper lip on the right side, put there by a cuddly but very wiggly kitten. I'm sure there's more, but those are the ones I remember most! That's an important part of writing. Making people stop and think "wow, I never looked at it exactly that way before" and then they go off and think about it!

Wow, very nice Ilona. It sure makes you think.
