I Need Ideas!

I was reading through the Favorite Flitts topic on the Dragonriders board and someone posted wondering why Anne made Poll (Menolly's 10th fire lizard) in the first place since he hardly does anything and is rarely mentioned. So then I got an idea: why not write a story where Poll helps save the day somehow. The problem is, I can't think of any good situations in which Poll could be helpful. So that's why I need your help. Do you have any good ways to give Poll something to do? Could he carry a message during a major Harper Hall emergency? Or will he boldly go where no flitt has gone before? Bring on your ideas and help me give Poll his moment of glory!

For Poll to shine Menolly's other firelizards, especially Beauty, would have to be unable to do what ever the needed job / task is themselves.

Since Flits can go between trapping them behind a rock fall or something wouldn't work. Although if the others were somehow concused or something & Menolly trapped while on important harper buisness then maybe Poll could shine! Since there are mines & old passageways in weyrs & holds that are long forgotten in Menolly's time she could be in somewhere like that looking for something historic, a vital clue to something. If she then got trapped only whatever flit is ok too & with her would be able to go for help, possibly carrying the vital bit of info Menolly was searching for too.

Another idea for how to get Beauty & possibly at least one pf the others out of the scene would be if she'd just laid a clutch of eggs & didn;t want to leave them, so Menolly just took Poll with her & left her initial flair with the eggs.
