To me, Douglas Adams is the ultimate in humor. I think that his books, the Hitchhiker's series, makes so many keen observations about humanity. It's just fantastic. I'm rather scared of what the movie will be like though.

just trying to remember his description of space or the appearance of the vogon fleet, or even his description of another twelve dozen incidents within his books brings me to laughter :applause:

I don't read a lot of science fiction, but Douglas Adams is wonderful! I have to re-read the Hitchhiker series one of these days. :D

"Yellow". That's just great. Arthur, going about the house, saying yellow, then realizing that it's a bulldozer in front of his house.

The BBC have a page on their web site which allows you to listen to some of their radio broadcasts up to a week after they have been first broadcast, from anywhere in the world. Lanen and I have used this link to catch up with some of the episodes of the tertiary phase we missed.
The episodes are probably no longer available to listen to, but you can find out information at http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hitchhikers/. If the episodes are repeated they might become available on-line again. The BBC are selling them on CD if you're curious. See http://www.bbcshop.com/icat/8?PURL=tvmerchandise.at/creditcardnews&P36=BDA3U&CID=0&CTY=8
Now, where's my advertising fee...

Just saw the absolutely hilarious movie preview...
For those of you who haven't seen it, it involves the Earth slowly rotating in space to whatever that song is that goes 'and I think to myself... what a wonderful world..."
And then it blows up.
One problem I had with the representation of the Guide in it... they forgot to put DON'T PANIC! on the cover!

Don't Panic!
are integral to the story!!!!
how can there be a hitch hikers movie or whatever without the Don't Panic !!!!!!

I've heard some other distressing rumors about the movie, concerning Zaphod's second head ... well, I'll just have to wait and see.

I love the Hitchhiker series. I have a quote on my fridge from Mostly Harmless. When I read them a few years ago, I was working in a movie theater, so I had to try to control my out-loud laughing. Not an easy thing to do when reading Douglas Adams. :shhh:

It does have the words "Don't Panic" - the planet blows up, and in the cloud of debris the words Don't Panic slowly appear - then the rest of the book appears and the website address appears (can't remember what it is though.) What a teaser!

My older son and I are at the movies around Christmas. He had already seen the movie and when the preview started - I had no idea. He said, "Mom, you're gonna LOVE this preview!" When I realized what it was, I was pretty excited. I have LOVED the books for, gosh, almost 20 years. I pray they don't ruin it, but I am NOT getting my hopes up.

I saw a longer preview, and it mostly looks fun - Arthur looks confused the whole time, which is definitely in character! Ford Prefect is black, but it works; Zaphod doesn't have two heads, he just has two faces or something, but the third arm is great. And I can't not see it!

The BBC are now transmitting the Quandary Phase, which means if you have never heard the radio series you have a chance to listen in via the Internet during the week after each episode is transmitted (using the URL contained in the above quote). The first episode was transmitted yesterday, 3rd May 2005.
Share and Enjoy.

If you use E donkey you can download all six of the original TV episodes of H2G2.
I agree the books are great i've already commented elsewhere on my feelings about the film. I think most of you are missing some very vital points here though.
Zaphod Beeblebrox President of the Galaxy, this is a psosition designed to distract the rest of the Galaxy from the real power that runs the Galaxy certainly not the president. Two Heads, and three arms to show all politicians are in two minds about almost everything and with three hands they can practice an even better sleight of hand.
The best quotes are the bits to do with Booze and of course flying
"The art of flying is the ability to throw yourself at the ground and miss."

I found out today that Virgin Trains (a supposedly Intercity Train company here in the UK) are now playing certain episodes of the original radio play on their on-board entertainment system ....
For any UK KTers out there, it is only available on the Pendolino fleet of trains out of London Euston.
Now if i want to listen to them ... I'll just erm ... borrow them from Bardmaiden

I bought a book that has the complete radio scripts, recently. :good: Got a discount because the cover was slightly damaged, too. I didn't even notice, but I wasn't going to argue.
I love Douglas Adams' books. Both the 5 book Hitchiker's Guide Trilogy and the two books starring Dirk Gently, Holistic Detective. :good:
I've read the radio scripts, read all of the hitchhiker books, seen the TV series on DVD, and seen the movie. I loved them all! :D

I think i bought the same book for BM for her Birthday ...
You may ask how i knew that she didn't have that book already ... seeing as her flat is 80% books 10% air 8% furniture and 2% people??? well she pointed at it whilst we were browsing a book shop in London and she said to me
"Buy me that for my Birthday!"
Well i'm not a very subtle guy ... but i can recognise a hint that thin

Overall I enjoyed the film, some bits were done well, others less so, but that's always the way with these things. I will def buy it when it comes out on DVD!
