I thought I remembered a link to something once but can't find it now... We can but hope for an artist to join us and render a vision?

I think that there is supposed to be a loo cow on the cover of one of the books. The paperback anyway. Does not look much like what I pictured in any case.

No pictures, except in my mind. For some reason, I invision it as an elongated Black Angus with an extra pair of legs about midway along.

I have a hard time imagining it too, H. Would be cool if someone did draw one up though. :good:

I picture it a little skinnier than a cow - longer, and with a narrower head. Kind of like a dachsund, actually!

I keep forgetting to check, but isnt there a pic of a loocow in the Dragons Lovers Guide???

Dawn
16th December 2004, 06:56 AM
Wouldn't think so since that's Pern and this is Botony. ;) But I went and checked anyway. They did have pictures of cows, but no loocows. :D

LOL of course it was! Silly me! But I'm glad to hear there was a cow of some sort on that book!!!

I also think there was an image on one of the books...can't for the life of me remember which though! Wasn't very distinct...then again, that might just be me and my poor vision.
i've been known to miss things on the covers of books til I've studied them 10 and 20 times.

K this is something that I was playing with, just simply adding an extra set of legs to an existing pic of a cow :), need some input here since I can't seem to find ANY of my freedom books grrrrrrr. Was there only one udder? For some reason I thought maybe there were two. lol but then it's been so long since I read any of this series.

Brenda
16th December 2004, 07:31 PM
I don't think they had an udder.

I don't think they had an udder.
Didn't they give blue milk tho? Or maybe I'm thinking of a different series altogether?

granath

No milk from loo-cows. One of the characters even said as much, although I can't remember who.

ladyholdermara

Loo cow WITHOUT udder lol as ordered

Hehe, hey thats not bad! Well I see there are white creatures of some sort on the cover of Freedom's Choice, but they can't be loo cows, they don't have 6 legs, only 4. They look more like a Llama to me.

I can do some artwork if anyone has something else McCaffrey related for me to draw. ;)

Maybe a slightly larger head? It looks kinda off-balanced with the long body and the little head.

i don't know why ... but i imagine the loo cow to be much more skinny and wiry ... i think its because of the necessary constant clomping to ward of night crawlers!

what do the rest of you think ?

:)

granath
17th December 2004, 10:31 AM
Yes. And the Loo Cow has legs that stick to the side, like an alligator, although it's tummy is obviously off the ground...

Bronze-Dragonrider
17th December 2004, 11:40 AM
Oh really? hmm, didn't know that. *erases legs on my drawing* Do you remember where in the books it says that? I really gotta reread those.

granath
17th December 2004, 11:55 AM
Quite soon after they get their first view of the loo-cows, or name them. It's definitely in the first book, but I can't remember exactly where.

had a quick look at Meus's site and these are the only covers I could see with the loocows on them - I think, it's pretty much the same picture on both, and they're very small so any details are unclear *pout*

I always think of them as a taller, skinner, longer bodied with an extra set of legs in the middle of the body version of a Holstein

That's a loo cow! mind you I've always viewed them as being a little like the cattle you get in Africa skinny, with a flap of skin in the neck.

Ok, I have a loo cow finnished, just have to email them to Ian who can put em on a site to link to. I couldn't get the alligator middle legs right though, so had to go back to the regular kind.

I know the pics you've made don't really have an idea of scale, but I always thought of loo-cows as being quite small, around the size of sheep.

I'm still nto sure whether there should be another chunk of body at the back, onto which the legs are stuck, or whether the body should be the same length, with the third pair of legs stuck itno the middle...

I know the pics you've made don't really have an idea of scale, but I always thought of loo-cows as being quite small, around the size of sheep.I imagined them to be bigger'n normal cows, rather than smaller... Not by a lot bbut by enough to accomodate more legs!

B-DR's picture is brilliant. Very similar to what I have in mind though it's more bluky in my head... Fatter? Despite all the stomping that'd keep it fit!

Thank you :D I was just following instructions that people thought they were skinny. Everyone has their own image in their minds, my drawing is just a concept peice, subject to change.
