View Full Version : UK gather location poll

OK, here's where you get to choose where we have next year's UK gather, but remember two things:

1. Someone living in or near the place we choose will have to find somewhere suitable to actually hold the gather (i.e. a hotel)

2. Like any poll, if you don't vote, you can't complain about the result!

Obviously, the more peeps who vote, the better, it would be nice to see more than the usual suspects in here!

If York wins, then yes, after all, we didn't break anything at the hotel last time (unlike Blackpool ;) ). Assuming we can get the same hotel, which we should if we get in early enough.

Which is closest to Southampton?

I think that they are about the same distance, and I would vote york too.

Well, York is the other side of nowhere from here... But we'll try and make it to the Gather whereever it is.

I'm going to have to vote Cardiff... since I live not too far from it... and won't have much travelling time or money.

OK, lets set the ball rolling for...

:erm:

Whitby? Birmingham? Leeds? So many choices...

Brum's close, Leeds is easy, Whitby is nicest...

I'll opt for Leeds! Somewhere we've not been and is accessible!

Gone for York.

I WANT to be there, and hopefully SHOULD be able to grab a lift there *Grins*

Will intro you all to Steve if I can get there! *Ponders ways to ask him nicely to take her there*

With a lift there I should be able to afford to stay there, and hell, me N him could use a holiday away from where we live lol.

I voted York but I own up to bias in my choice. I often drive up to York, it's only about 3 hours from here.

Just looked and it's only be bout £40 for the train fare for me, and that's max. As long as the hotel is fairly cheap or I get a roomshare I should definately be able to go!

Have no fixed ideas as yet. I would love to get to a gather and, as I drive, could get to most places in England. With a full time job and enough time I should be able to be able to organise a Saturday off and enough dosh to allow me to get there.

Multiple choice would have been nice, Ian. Can't it be that people have no preferences between two places mentioned?

If I do manage to come York would be best for people coming from Europe I think, although -- like Steven said in the nomination thread -- sometimes flying farther away is cheaper than taking a train or ship to a closer destination :erm:

Anywhere we choose is always going to be better for some and not for others.

I'm not voting  because I shall go where ever is decided. I have no preference and there's no way on Earth or Pern for that matter ;) I can make time to help organise one in Leeds other than to say where places are in relation to each other (if you know what I mean)

The reason I didn't make it multiple choice was so that we'd be more likely to have a clear winner, rather than 7 or 8 locations with a couple of votes each. We need to know where we're going ASAP, so we can then arrange a date & sort out the hotel.

I don't know where I'm gonna be next year yet, so I don't really know where to vote for.

In that case, by default, your vote goes to York!!

York would be lovely - it'd be fun to see what's changed and what's stayed the same since I worked there in the early 1990s! And it'd be lovely to see Ian, BM, H and the rest of the folks from D*C again!

Anyone got a copy of the werewolf game? :D

Sorry I've not been around much, work has been driving me crazy but the semester is almost over! Catch you again soon.

I'm sure we could knock up something if we can't find a copy of Are you a Werewolf :D

Just don't burp! ;)

I don't mind where it is, from this corner of the country I would have to travel any way. So the transport links are more important.
-H- .....would I be right to say that there are Rail links to York? *Snigger*

Does anyone know if York has an airport?

In addition What dates are being put forward?
*Cross fingers*
Please not early November!

Zzzzzzzzz....

*is poked*

*raises head*

Oh, hi. Some part of me appears to still belong here, even if I haven't posted in... um... well, let's not get technical.

I vote York simply because I missed out on the last York one, and Carlisle's far too far for you all to trek up here, ain't it?

^_^

Wow.

I posted!!! :bouncy:

Ian
4th December 2005, 10:45 PM
Sassie, York doesn't have an airport, the nearest one is Leeds/Bradford, but it does have excellent rail links.

Me thinks there may be a most popuylar choice already...!

I suppose I could make York if I have to...!

 x2

But would you want me?

We hardly saw you last time Jayson ;)

Anyway, York is the clear winner (and no, I didn't vote for it, I voted for Scarborough!), so our next task, after the where, is the when. New poll on its way.

York, eh? Hmm... Only a few hours on the train... A few hours further than Brum, but who knows, maybe I'll make a gather for once :D
