View Full Version : It snowed this morning!

I know it's not unusual for there to be snow this early in the season, certainly not in more northern parts of this country, and absolutely not in Canada. But, I was still surprised when I got up this morning and looked out on snow flurries. The temperature is cold too, about 27F. Brrrrrr! It got me thinking of an "Old Wives Tale" (just who WERE those Old Wives, anyway?! :disguise: ) that said that the date of the first snow fall in your area predicted how many snow storms there would be that winter. If that's the case, we're in for a VERY bad year! So. How's the weather wherever you are?!

We have beautiful blue skies here. COOOOOLD though!
We have been predicted sleet or snow showers starting on Thursday or Friday. Coldest winter in a decade this one is meant to be.
I believe them. I am FREEZING!

It's only snowed twice in my part of Canada, and both were very light, only lasting a few days. Right now it's not that bad, but it's been quite cloudy lately :( Oh well, it's better that snow!

We've had snow a couple of times so far, but nothing has stayed. It's pretty amazing that we haven't had something big hit us yet. The western part of the state has a few times, though. Right now it is a decent temp., but last Sat. was kinda ishy. We were hunting when it was 28*F and a 25mph wind with -10*F windchill. My face is still a bit red from that  .

My sister's in Chicago and it snowed there....she's coming home for T**key Day and I hope she'll make it.
Where I am, it's frosted but hasn't snowed. (My hair froze because it was wet).

It's supposed to be snowing here by the weekend... I won't believe it until I see it - as we're supposed to be a bit too far south for snow. But my mum (who arrives in 3.5weeks) is really keen to see some snow!

Freezing my accessories off here. :erm:
We had one snowstormish, then it melted, but I think it's coming down as I type. Of course I'm at school, which is the "snow belt". My house'll probably get about half as much.

We've had two barely measurable dustings (but some of what fell is still there in some shady areas). By now we should have had at least one biggish storm, but they haven't even had to break out the snowplows yet.
Our next storm is supposed to be Sunday/Monday, hopefully this one will be a nice big dumping of white stuff. We need it, the ski resorts need it. It was nearly 70F today!

I come from California, I know what it's like. I'm *from* NorCal, but I was stationed in San Diego for a while (when I was in the Navy). I much prefer snowier climates. Colorado isn't quite snowy enough for me but it will do for now.

it actually snowed in Cornwall yesterday!!! it was about 6'' but it was enough to bring the county to a standstill especially on Bodmin Moor near the Jamaica Inn. Now the last time that happened I was a teenager so it must have been around the late 70s but no later than 1980.

My cousin wanted snow so badly - she did a snow dance in the middle of the sidewalk in NYC and people stared at her, she said.
There's still a lot of snow here, but there's black ice around, too, so, be careful, everyone!

No snow. No snow at all. Believe it or not it got *too cold* which causes the clouds to not precipitate. There is plenty in the mountains, but not a drop here.
*sigh*
Maybe the next storm (mid-week) will produce something decent?

I'm in the middle of a Winter Storm Warning for 32 hours. The weather guys are predicting a doozie of a storm tonight and tomorrow. The worst part is that there is going to be a lot of freezing rain tonight. The 3-5 inches of snow isn't too bad with our 3 inches already. Hopefully there will be a break between the rain and snow so the roads can be cleared off a little, otherwise it is not going to be good. There are already a ton of cars in the ditches on interstate around Fargo and a couple of nasty rollovers and jackknifed semi trucks, too. ISHY!

Oh well, at least I'll have a safe drive to school tommorow. I've already had some harrowing times.
I even went into the bank at the side of the road. It wasn't my fault, this guy was parked on the wrong side just over the crest of a hill. Brake! Turn! Into the snowbank goes Camilo!
I hate it when a 45 minute drive takes two hours though.

Our snow isn't supposed to start for a little while yet. But the roads are so icy and the winds gusting over 45mph that pretty much everything is closed down in a very, very large area. I think this is the first time since the 1997 flood, that NDSU has closed down. :erm:
In my dorm, we've been having trouble all night and day with the fire alarms going off. The ice has played havoc with line above and below ground so every so often the alarms go off. At least we don't have to go outside and wait for the alarms to go off, though. No one would have gotten any sleep at all.

We finally had a few flakes of snow today...and I do mean a few. ;) If you blinked, you missed them. We are cold and windy though. Too windy. We've had a lot of grass fires start up because it so dry and wind gust up to 60 mph didn't help any. There have been some pretty big areas burnt over the last few days. :(

No, dear, thats where the big national park in Wales is! Why don't you take your fingers away from the keyboard for a few hours and go and research it? Not everything in Britain revolves around a bunch of idiots who call themselves "Lord" and "Lady". God, the Viscounts are even worse.

I was kidding, GB - the reason Elizabeth gave her brother-in-law the title the Earl of Snowdon is because he was WELSH originally.

No, dear. If you knew anything about the Royal Family, you would know that the reason the Queen (do me a favour? If you're going to refer to my head of state, at least be respectful about it) gave him the title of Earl of Snowdon was because the title had been held by the Welsh Princes and the House of Gwynedd before 1282. Of course, LOL, now you're going to reply with "of course I knew that". Well, my dear, quite frankly I don't give a damn. For some inane reason you either think that we Brits care that you know about our Royal Family or that we're at all interested in reading endless posts by you on the subject or, well, or any other subject for that matter. Quite frankly, your posting frenzy has really started to bore me - and I'm sure it has bored everyone else. There is not a single subject on this board you've not posted to. For god's sake, why? It has got to the stage where I'm considering putting you on "Ignore" so that I don't need to read the inane nonsense you punch into the keyboard. I mean, for God's sake, Aberlioness posts an image of Snowdonia and says that she was out there for a good old scramble - and you start on about the Royal Family! You refer to your post in the Paedophilia thread as "Silly" (and look at what offence you caused there). You not only offended me, little girl, but an entire swathe of people with your ridiculous commentary of "I need to brush up on my World War Two Trivia" in the Dunkirk Crossing thread (and you put some trashy comment in about how you really know more about the Royal Family than World War Two - who cares? I certainly don't). At the risk of being warned off by an over-zealous host - is there a point to your posting or do you just do it for posting's sake? If you've not got anything worthwhile to add to a thread, do us all a favour my dear and just keep your goddamned fingers away from the keyboard.
Oh, and by the way? Don't even dare to assume that I don't know anything about British history - that any British poster on this board knows nothing about British history - because, drearie, you're going to have your hands quite severely burned. Grow up, and start using your head or get the hell off this board. Stop the idiotic mass postings.

Unusual day here today. Started off with forecasts of snow and freezing rain. All the schools closed. Ended up starting to snow at about noon, turned to regular rain by 2 and it's still raining, so all the snow is gone and it's 36 degrees. In other words, no snow, no ice, no reason for the schools to close.
