The Song of the Weyr
Gold and bronze, brown and blue
Fly at the Thread so true
Green, dive down and flame the Thread unseen
Dragons soar through the sky so boldly
As between embraces scored beasts coldly
Sear the deadly Thread, quite a threat
Flame the menace - do not forget
That the Weyrs are here to serve
And receive the tithes so deserved

The Death of the Weyrleader
At a Gather came disaster
Thanks to Fax, it came faster
It was held at Telgar Hold
With dragons brown and blue, bronze and gold
Lord Tarathel welcomed all
Then came the unlucky brawl
A young lad bumped into the heir
The Weyrleader interceded - how did he dare?
The lad's "brother" came to help
While Weyrleader F'lon cursed the young whelp
Battling with knives they did
Of the Leader did Lord Fax wish to be rid
Fax's crony stabbed F'lon
Shrieking, Simanith was gone
Robinton lamented over his hurt
Looking back, he wished to pervert
The quickening of F'lon's rage
So the Weyrleader would be alive at this stage
With F'lon gone, Nemorth was lost
The Weyr had paid a heavy cost
The young, visionary leader was dead
With hidebound R'gul in his stead
Disaster was bound for the Weyr
And Pern was bound with fear
And Robinton had lost a friend
For his companion had met an untimely end

Ode to Fax
Every couple generations or so
A Hold spawns a tyrant, you know
This recent interval did this, too
To this rule, it held true
High Reaches Hold had a lord
By his people, Faravene was adored
Honest and fair, was the leader
But Faravene's sibling was no true breeder
She spawned an angry boy
Who brought, to his family, little joy
His name was Fax
The holder was hardly lax
Greedy was this relative
to him, little would be appeasive
He slew the lord and his brood
Bargen fled to avoid a feud
Fax conquered other holds
The others didn't like a Lord so bold
After getting Ruatha, too
Fax came Turns later to see what they grew
Challenged by F'lar, he was slain
And a fair lord ruled Ruatha again
