Anyone got their scores back???
On my PSAT, I got the highest grade in the entire school (and I'm a sophomore going angainst Juniors) of 1930. :)
On my PLAN, I have a feeling I did rather well...
Taking the others mid-spring!

In fact maybe you could explain Psat, PLAN, ACT and SAT for all us non-Americans!

PSAT is the practice test for the SAT (i'll get to that later)
PLAN is the practice test for the ACT (and here we go)
SAT and ACT are basically the same thing; they're standardized tests that judge how well someone knows the subjects taught throughout their lives in school. It is a timed test that has about 30-45 questions a section, four sections (reading, math, proofreading, and writing)-SAT. ACT-(Reading, Math, Science, and Writing Skills)
:)
Highest you can make is a 2400 on the SAT and a 32 (I think) on the ACT

To add to Jay's explanation. Most colleges and Universities in the US use your results of those tests as part of the entrance criteria.

The highest score possible on the ACT is 36. My cousin was mad because she got a 35 :faint: :weirdo:

Mad at a 35?
She should be proud!

Thanks y'all and...
MAD AT A 35? No one in our whole school's history has gotten a 35.

That's like on West WIng! When Pres Bartlett tells about how he took the SAT again after he got a 1590 b/c he was annoyed that he got anything wrong. Then got another 1590...umm I would have died for a 1590.

Yeah I know my cousin is kinda nuts. :weirdo: She thought she could have done better on the writing portion. Anyways, it sounds like she is going to MIT so the ACT score is irrelevant there. She has to take some other tests. I don't know what her SAT score was.
My ACT score wasn't that great for me; and I know I could have done a lot better, but I still got scholarship money. I ended up with the same score both times I took it. Didn't have to take the SAT, though. I took the PSAT but don't remember what I got.

Actually, there are now THREE sections on the SAT as opposed to the previous TWO. Thus the score scale has been bumped up from 1600 to 2400.
I got a 2220 on my SAT this spring.

Meh. I can't say I like the sound of a marking system that lumps things like maths and english skills under the same grade... some people can be hopeless at one but a genius at the other!

It's actually three seperate grades, 800 for each. Depending on what college you're trying to go to, they might ignore a poor math grade if you have an exemplary writing grade.
Of course, MOST colleges (especially state run) you don't need a good score at all to get in.

Not true here in Florida. At least University of (go Gators!)...you need a 3.8 GPA and doggone it, I'm not sure of the SAT since it goes to 2400 now (congrats on a fantastic score btw :applause: ). The Eldest took the PSAT and they didn't give him a score...just said he scored in the 97th percentile of Juniors (he's a sophomore like Jay). So we're happy.

Ah! Okay, I'm no longer confused. It was only the 1600 when I took the SAT. Though I really rather I'd have gotten to take one of the newer versions. From what all my friends tell me, I would have enjoyed them better! And probably done better. (can we say BORING 3 hour exam!) They'd just started making some major changes when I last took the SAT in Fall of '97.

I'm pretty sure no one enjoys the SAT. It was boring, and probably is and will remain boring for all eternity.

Awww...but that was the easy part! :santagrin Or at least, for me one of the less painful. What I hated was the essays that had absolutely NO point of view that you had to answer questions on. The first time they offered up a reading comprehension section that actually had an OPINION, I almost didn't believe it! It wasn't necessarily any more INTERESTING, but it made it a lot easier. The math parts were "eh." And if they had let us just do the sections straight through to the end of the test, I would have done better. Cause I always finished the English related sections faster than the math ones by exactly the amount of time I would have needed to complete all the math.

Yeah, me too...well I don't know about exactly, but I always finished the English sections wayy ahead of time and needed a few more minutes for the math ones, but usualyl rushed and managed to finish witha few wrong at the end.

I made really good on the math that I knew how to do...ie...what I had seen before.
As I said, I have to get tutored to make up near perfect scores cause I believe I've got my career planned out.
4 years at the University of Texas for my Master's in English
Try to transfer to Oxford for my Dr. and then persue a career in being a professor at some University and writing novels.
*shrugs*
I need to score HIGH for scholarships...
