Hi guys. I am going to be in York on Saturday February the 25th. I will be spending part of the time at the uni at an archery competition but will definitely be able to spend some time in the city either before or after the competition. Anyone want to meet up?

(I will get more details closer to the event)

Well you've certainly given us plenty of notice! I'm sure we'll be available (considering we live here ;) ), though H might be working.

Not that I have any chance in heck of coming, but I just wanted to say I'm jealous!!! :tantrum: There are never any gathers close enough to me for me to participate in.

I'm sure that one day I'll go back to Oregon and Washington (its only been 24 years ;) ) - we could have a Gather then :)

RightI have a few more details about the shoot...I start at 1 and we finish at 4pm so I can meet people after that somewhere and catch a train back to Stoke later in the evening.

Ian
19th January 2006, 12:40 PM
OK, we'll have a think about where would be best to meet up, unless you have somewhere in mind (depends how well you know the place).

Bamy
22nd January 2006, 08:53 AM
And it now turns out the competition has been bumped back to the 4th of Feruary  I can still make it whenever it is and I have very little knowledge of York I have only been there once...perhapse you could suggest somewhere we could meet up and I can taxi it there?

Ian
22nd January 2006, 03:30 PM
Hmm, all of a sudden it's almost on top of us! Don't get a taxi, the number 4 bus runs from the uni direct into town & is a lot cheaper! Clifford Street would probably be the best place to get off, but we'll get back to you on that once we've discussed among ourselves ;)

Bamy
22nd January 2006, 04:18 PM
OK I was wrong there are two tournaments in york...one on the 4th the other on the other date...I don't mind which one we use to meet up.

Ian
22nd January 2006, 06:03 PM
Well, since we'd already marked the 25th down, we may as well stick with that, now you're still going to be coming that day :)

Bamy
23rd January 2006, 06:10 AM
sounds good to me!

Ian

Just realised that the 25th is the last Saturday of the Viking festival, unfortunately I think all the fun parts (longship races, battle, etc.) are over by 4pm :(

Bamy

Aww...man:(

Bamy
3rd February 2006, 07:34 AM
Is there anything on the friday?

Ian
3rd February 2006, 12:19 PM
There will be, there's stuff happening all week, I'll see if I can find a schedule.

Ian
3rd February 2006, 05:05 PM
Go here (http://www.vikingjorvik.com) for details of the festival (you need to click on the black "Jorvik the Viking city" square to get to the festival info, unfortunately it's one of those annoying sites that shows the same url no matter which page you visit  )

Wonders if she can tempt hubby to visit his parents in Hull at the end of Feb or should she travel up there without him.

Ian
4th February 2006, 04:32 PM
You'd be welcome to join us, though I'm not so sure about Woolymouse ;)

Bamy
6th February 2006, 09:02 PM
You are more than welcome to come! The more the merrier. I have decided to come up by bus on the 24th so I will be able to meet people Friday afternoon/evening and saturday morning and then travel back with the Keele Archers. They lknow what my plans are so no probs there, I know there are hundreds of cheap B+Bs in the city so again, no problems.

Bamy
6th February 2006, 09:03 PM
The markets n things sound really cool by the way! :ok:

Ian
7th February 2006, 10:29 PM
The Viking market is always good, last year there was even someone selling bows & arrows :)

The only drawback about Friday is that I don't finish w**k until 7.30-8pm :(

Bamy
7th February 2006, 10:37 PM
that isn'ta problem, I will have all afternoon to look around and if you want to meet up in the eening thats fine. if not we could meet saturday morning.

KC.
9th February 2006, 09:34 PM
If the Mini-Gather's now going to be Friday evening rather than Saturday daytime/evening I can't make it.

Hope to see you for the big one in September.

Bamy
9th February 2006, 09:48 PM
Saturday morning is good...apparenly we will not be shooting till about 1.45 so there is all morning...I am just coming up earlier to see the viking festival thing

Ian
10th February 2006, 09:01 PM
I'll PM you my mobile number so we can co-ordinate on Friday evening :)

Bamy
10th February 2006, 09:15 PM

It may be good for someone who is actually in York but as I'm not and have other commitments the afternoon/evening on a Saturday is always going to be better for me.

Bamy
20th February 2006, 07:16 PM
Ok guys the mini gather is fast approaching. I will be available all friday evening and saturday till about 1.30 - we are shooting at 2. where and when should we meet up?

-H-
20th February 2006, 10:44 PM
I'm on Night shift Friday night/Saturday Morning....

So unless you get the 1840ish York to Scarborough train, you probably won't see me :O

Bamy
21st February 2006, 07:15 AM
I will be around for most of friday afternoon too, I am going to get a moning bus up to york and be a tourist...ie having a look at all the viking festival stuff.

Ian
21st February 2006, 12:31 PM
I think the station would be the best place (I work just behind it, so it's just acouple of minutes' walk). If you give me a call around 7.30 I'll be able to let you know when I'll be finished (since it depends on how much there is to do).

Bamy
21st February 2006, 12:39 PM
Sure, no problem. (train or bus station?)

Ian
21st February 2006, 12:44 PM
There isn't a bus station in York... ;)

Bamy
21st February 2006, 12:51 PM
Okee. Thanks, I thought there was because I am catching a coach up there.

Ian
21st February 2006, 07:35 PM
The main drop-off points for coaches are the station (National Express & some others), near the art gallery, or by Clifford's Tower.

Bamy
21st February 2006, 08:24 PM
Sweet. That's good to know.

Ian
23rd February 2006, 12:26 PM
One day to go! :bouncy:

Bamy
23rd February 2006, 12:32 PM
:woohoo:

Bamy
23rd February 2006, 12:36 PM
Got any plans?

Ian
23rd February 2006, 08:15 PM
Well, there's a pub in the city centre that we always seem to find ouselves in at mini-gathers (have to have our Baileys, after all ;) ). After that we'll see where we end up going (best to go there fairly early as the centre gets very busy on Friday nights). More chance of doing things on Saturday really, but I hope the weather's better than today, cold & rainy :(

Bamy
23rd February 2006, 09:27 PM
Sweet (about the pub and bailies) :( about the weather. I have all saturday moring until 12.

Ian
23rd February 2006, 11:19 PM
Have you sorted out somewhere to stay yet? If not we have a nice (7 foot long!) sofa you can crash on (if you don't mind staying in a place that would make most student houses look tidy ;) )

Bamy
23rd February 2006, 11:28 PM
Crashing on a sofa overnight sounds good and thankyou for the offer. I was planning on staying in a B+B but was going to go searching when I got to York. :) :hugs:

Bamy
23rd February 2006, 11:29 PM
And trust me...our house looks like several atom bombs have hit it!

Ian
23rd February 2006, 11:34 PM
No bombs here, just lots of books (5,000 as a conservative estimate), records (500 vinyl albums, plus singles & CDs), & 8 keyboards! Oh, and we have an unopened bottle of Baileys & a nice single malt whisky here (plus whatever we might buy tomorrow ;) )

*note to self, take the keyboard off the sofa*

Bamy
23rd February 2006, 11:36 PM
Thanks Ian! (really must go to bed now if I have any chance of getting an assignment finished for tomorrows deadline (ie before catching the bus)

Ian
23rd February 2006, 11:39 PM
See you tomorrow :)

Bamy
23rd February 2006, 11:40 PM
Yep :)

I just want to say thanks to Ian and Lady Legira for letting me stay the night. I had a really good time and it is great to put faces to names (I rarely go in the lets see ya thread). Ian has gotten me really tempted to go to Dragon con in the near future (and if I do I am just gonna HAVE to think up a good costume (or two)). I had a really great time and to top it off, I beat my PB in the archery tournament getting 441 out of 600 :woohoo: (my last PB was around the 410 mark ;). We (the team) also came away with several medals including a gold in the ladies novice recurve, bronze in the gent's novice recurve and a silver for the team.:D

Ian
26th February 2006, 02:16 PM
Glad to have you Amy, and congrats to you & the team :D
