Sheesh...have a little sleep in (well, I WAS up until 2AM fighting with smilies!) and you guys start without me!

Anyhow, the NEW Kitchen Table Live chat room is now open for business!

There's a link to it on the main site front page HERE! (http://www.annemccaffreyfans.org)

One thing you should know...bearing in mind the fun that was had with the original KTL, at present we do NOT require you to enter your form registration details...but this also means you have to select your avatar each time you arrive. We'll keep an eye on this and turn on the link if there are any problems, but for the time being, have fun!

Haven't gotten in yet... not even an error message. I thought maybe AceExplorer's popup blocker was being overzealous, but it told me there's no hidden popups. And Norton Security isn't telling me something's trying to connect either.

That's odd. I love firefox and it loves java. :) Try reinstalling firefox, and if you're still using the beta version 0.x, it might be a good idea to upgrade to the release version 1.0.

Doubt it. Any java 1.4.x should work. None of them worked on the old KTL, it had to be java 1.3.x or the MVM (microsoft virtual machine).

Well, isn't this discouraging. I finally got into the chat after having to download the most recent Java stuff (the things I do for you people! :roll: :evilgrin: ) and no one is there! All that work for nothing. You'd think there'd at least be a welcoming party or something. :faint: :redfruit:

I use Firefox, too, athough I'm posting this with IE. :roll: I agree with Granath, Faiz. Depending on the version of Firefox you're using, you might need to upgrade.

As to some of the other problems, one of them might be a memory issue. The DigiChat works by uploading a Java applet to your computers RAM. If you've been surfing or running programs for awhile before logging into chat, you might just not have enough memory to run the DigiChat. When you know you want to chat, try clearing your cookies and temporary internet files and reboot before you logon. It might help, but if it doesn't please don't come looking for me. I'll be hiding under my table as usual. :razz:

Tried cleaning out cookies and temp files...still just getting a blank page. The Connect button pops up after a few seconts, as if it timed out, though it says Applet Digichat started at the bottom of the window. Even coaxed IE to open so I could try there. I use Ace Explorer normally.
Going to see if I can get in first thing tomorrow though.

The first time I tried to get in after downloading the new java it took a REALLY long time to get started - I thought my computer had frozen until I right-clicked on my little flashing moniters down there on the right-hand side of the screen and checked status, then I watched my computer recieve 13,000,000 bytes before the window opened and it let me in. Now it goes much faster.

There's a problem with the new version of DigiChat. I got in fine a few days ago, but today it doesn't work. So if you haven't been able to get in, it may not be because of your settings.

I've been in the chat room twice now, and for some reason links don't work when I click on them. Popups are enabled on my computer, so why doesn't anything happen when I click on the banner that wants to take me to the smilie page, for instance? :noface: :confused: :upside:

Lara, try holding the control key and clicking. It is the only way I can click on links since upgrading to winXP. Also sometimes I have to control click a couple of times to get the link. Hope that helps.

I haven't had a problem with XP or SP2, and can click normally on links. Has to be something else messing things up for you. Then again, this laptop is much better behaved than my old Gateway, which ran on ME...so it's a matter of perspective.

Got in last night, for about a minute. Right before my ISP disconnected. :;kicks it:: Seems like either I can get in when the bytes sent and recieved are up over 1 million each, which is about when the thing is ready to disconnect on me, or if I try to reopen chat earlier than that, it just freezes the browser. :P
Going to keep trying. Occasionally.

Actually, there's no such thing as "that time of the night" in the KT or KTL.

This is very much an international community, so even if it's 3 in the morning site time (which is UK time BTW) that's mid evening in the USA or the middle of the next day in Austalia or New Zealand. Obviously there's never a guarantee of finding other people in chat (especially after the tech problems Digichat have given us) but if you hang around for a little while somebody somewhere tends to turn up!

Well, the evening period for the USA (10PM Eastern, 9PM Central, 8PM Mountain, 7PM Pacific) tends to be about the busiest time for American visitors. However, it also coincides with the early afternoon in Australia and New Zealand, so there's often a few people in that region chatting as well.

...and it's not unknown for British or European night owls to still be around then too! :D Yawn!
