I'm playing the game the second time 'round....I beat it the first time with the help of a guide. I'm trying to play it this time without the guide...and I'm in the Dark Caves now, trying to find Jim. The problem is that you don't have the mining bracelet, seeing as it's too early in the game. The screen is nearly pitch-black, and I can't see where I'm going. I'm really bad at techie things - does anyone know how to brighten the screen?

Could you tell us what sort of buttons are on your monitor?

The only buttons on my monitor are none of the brightening ones - there's on/off, volume....stuff like that. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I'll triple check when I get home.

I haven't even looked at the game in a long time, but many games have a Gamma adjustment in the options menu. It might be Game Options > Video or it might be Options > Graphics or something similar.
You can adjust the Gamma or you might have a Brightness control instead of or in some cases, as well as the Gamma Control.
Have you checked for this in your game? It is usually better to use a game setting to adjust the image so that your other programs you might run won't be too bright or too dark. (Depending on which way you adjust it for the game.)

I'll check when I play later. Rabbles - when you asked, I was at school. Now, I'm home. The buttons on my monitor are: on/off, Auto, Menu, Select, and volume buttons.

There should be a brightness/contrast bar in the Menu.
