I suppose you could look at it as a little extra cash for Christmas gifts? I have a job all year round so I guess I'd have to say yes to your question. My daughter's boyfriend just got a job working as a bank teller, so he's quite pleased. Steady money, room to advance, and not bad hours.

The reason I do it is for the money - but that doesn't mean that I have to LIKE it! ;)

It's almost impossible to get holiday jobs around here, you have to apply in like August to get a job over christmas because there's so many people applying, and they prefer the under 18s anyways because they can pay a lower minimum wage

You have a different minimum wage depending on age? We have (I believe) a minimum work age. I believe it's 16, though it might be 15 in some states, with a limit on the number of hours/type of job to be worked. Our minimum wage knows no age limit. So, if you work in a poorly paid job, you can be 50 and making minimum wage or just a little above. Or, if it's a good paying job, you can be 20 and starting out at well above minimum. Did any of that make sense?

Yup sorta! I'm not sure of exact amounts, but Minimum wage here for someone over 18 I think, it might be 20, is $14.60, whereas if you're under that age, the minimum wage is $11 or $12, I wouldn't know because I came here after I was older than that  LOL

In NZ:
For a person who is 16 and 17, the minimum wage is $8.20, and for a person who is 18 or over, the minimum wage is $10.25.
