I got that as a (belated) Christmas present, and finished it earlier today. I thought that it was okay. It got a bit talky at times, with the characters giving tons (and tons and tons) of exposition - some of that was fine, especially at the beginning, when I was trying to remember who everybody was, since it's been ages since I read the books (and now I want to re-read them). Some of it wasn't, when the exposition given was something that didn't matter at all throughout the course of the book. In all honesty, it reminded me of writing things just to boost my word count during NaNoWriMo. And, of course, one of my biggest pet peeves in co-authoring came up - where the authors feel like they must explain everything twice (in this case, all the characters got reintroduced twice).
All in all, though, I thought it was pretty good - I loved the scene of Sean and Yana trying to name the twins - and I can't wait for the next book to come out.

The twins are Ronan Born for Water Shongili and Murel Monster Slayer Shongili. Twin brother and sister of Yana and Sean. They are like their father each can turn into a seal and converse telepathically with the planet's creatures.
They are seen changing into a seal and are hunted. They go searching for knowledge of their origins of their shapeshifting talent placing them in more peril.
The planet is changing and the quest for information places Sean in danger.
How do these things go together you have to read it to find out.
The only thing I wasn't to happy with in this book was the time jump difference in the story line. Other than that it is a good book and worth a reread.

Flipped through a few pages at Barnes and Noble and liked what I saw. Didn't feel like paying 24 dollars for it though, plus hardcovers take up too much space on already crowded shelves. So I'll wait for the paperback.

I saw it in the bookstore, leafed through, and thought that I wouldn't spend a cent on it if I didn't know the name of the author. So... I'm waiting for paperback. Same with the Acorna's Kid thingy.

I loved it.... I thought Yana gave birth to them in one of PTB's caverns in a hot pool.... in the beginning of the book it says that Cloddaugh was her midwife? I'm confused.

At the end of Power Play, Yana gives birth in one of the hot spring pools, so that the babies transform to selkies. Sean is in his selkie form. Clodagh is the midwife.

Read it and enjoyed it.
I personally don't think theres much in the way of rehashing over what happened in the 1st 3 books .... no more than any prologue in the Pern books methinks.
I especially enjoyed the interaction with the childeren and the ... :erm: ... well no spoilers in this thread i suppose  .... all i will say is "HAH-HAH" :ok:

That character was my favourite! :D
The rest of the book, I wasn't so thrilled with, though.

Same with the Acorna's Kid thingy.I didn't think The 'Acorna's Children: First Warning (which I bought and read on saturday much to my friends amazement - at finishing it in less than 6 hours that is) anyhoo..it isn't that bad a plot not too bad a story though it does ring a little of fan fiction...it seems like it was written by an amateur...or do I sound a bit cynical about one of anne's later works?

I just finished reading it. I was able to borrow it from the public library (although it took several weeks to get it - there is only one copy for 3 different libraries).
I thought it was pretty good. It did make me want to go back and reread the rest of the series. It has been a long time.

Got it from the library. I dunno...it was OK, but just a little too juvenile for me. Though *hah* was a wonderful character. I think the next book mught be better as they will be older. All the mind to mind conversations just didn't do it for me. I wanted more of Yana, but it was not to be.
But there are some definite cliffhangers, aren't there?

I think it's supposed to look hand-cut. The one from the library looked the same.

Well the copy I ordered from the library finally arrived yesterday. Enjoying the story so far but the first thing I noticed was the uneven pages too. I don't like the way they do that. It makes it look messy.
