View Full Version : I was wondering...

I was just wondering if this series was any good. I've been thinking about reading it for a while and I wanted to know if I'd like it.
I'm into Classic SiFi and Neo Fantasy. And also I have little cash.
(Can any one give me their :2cent: worth?) lol

Any book written by Anne is worth a read! ;)
Depending on how much cash you have, you might like to try the Crystal Singer series, also.
They are *(in my opinion)* equal to, if not better than the ragonrider series.

Equal or better than the dragonrider series?! Well that deserves some investigating.

Meir, I haven't read any of the Acorna books, although I own one. But I suspect that since it is authored by Anne, it should be a good read. But I'd have to go with Tony on the Crystal Singer series if he says they're that good. If you find *any* McCaffrey books around somewhere and you have some spare cash it'd be great to pick it up.

Feena, you don't have a library? That is so sad  Not even anything at a local school or something? Even they usually have something by Anne.

I haven't read Acorna and I thought Petaybee was OK.... Crystal Singer is awesome! I think Acorna is classed as Young Adult fiction too, if that makes any difference ;)

Note when I say we I mean Feena and I seeing as we are sisters in real life and not just :fiend:ones!

Ah ok, now it makes more sense. I keep thinking that whenever people talk of siseters, uncles, so on that its the :fiend: clan.

Is there a way you could take a bus to the library?

Sorry, Acorna or Petaybee?

If you're asking about Acorna, don't bother spending your little cash on 'em. Not drivel but not worth the outlay if you're looking for a gripping read. They're the kind of thing you could get from the library should you be so inclined. Not the bext of Anne's works!

Petaybee? Buy the lot! Read 'em, re-read 'em and then, look at them longingly on the shelf! A wonderfull concept, a well thought out storyline, action, romance, twists and turns... A great collection wotth the money and paper they're printed on!

All my opinions of course!

We live in the small town of no where! And busses don't come out that far...

Perhaps you could ring the library that's near you and ask them if it's possible to work something out, if the town is small they may already have something in place for people like you who can't get there!

Feena_bronze_rider

Maybe. You people are smart! If they could send them to our door! *evil grin* Anne McCaffrey books sent to our door.... that would be heaven!

Well the library is in another town and our town is like the perfect small town where people sit outside and drink iced tea, play checkers and sing... except no one does that here. lol You NEVER see people out doors. They're all holed up in their homes waiting for the day big business will come and take there homes!!! GWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!
So the chances of any one helping us is 0 to none.

Jayson,
I'm truely dissapointed in ya ! :irked:

I've enjoyed the Acorna books since the very first one, and despite the fact that Bobbsy'd not read past the 3rd one, I've even talked HIM into giving 'em another try...

Everything is not for Everybody, but I DID find each and every "Acorna" to be a Page-Turner and well worth the £'s/$'s/whatever's you need to gain 'em !

Hey,
It's silly NOT to try an Anne-Book - Yes ?
:D

I'd love to hear your comments when ya have, Meir and Feena :ok:

I wouldn't be surprised if something like this IS available where you live, Girls :read: - and it never hurts to phone the next biggest town (or the local council) to find out, Huh ?

Never say Die, ESPECIALLY when it comes to reading something McCaffrey !
:ok:

I did say IMO! I know some of my views aren't universally popular, like my dislike of Jaxom in the DRoP series but I'm not afraid to have 'em!

If others wish to waste their money... :erm: Spend their pennies on such drivel, :erm: such books, I shall not stop them obviously, having neither the means nor the time to do so!

I will state my case though!

Don't do it!

Just goes to show what a diverse bunch we are.
Personally......I've read the PTB trilogy twice......and was less impressed the second time round than the first....just didn't "grab" me, like Anne's other stuff.
Now Acorna is a different matter...I thought those were great!
Although, if you're dyslexic like I am, trying to pronounce some of the names can be a bugger! :D
But on the whole......I've yet to pick up an "Anne" book that I can honestly say "I'll not read that again!".

You don't have to be dyslexic for the names to be a problem!!! :whee:

Acorna is defintely worth it! I found the Linyaari to be so interesting that I couldn't put the book down. Acorna's People is my personal favorite so far.

I was going to read it but a girl at the library said it wasn't up to the "standards" of the pern series. So I got the master harper of Pern.

I have to agree with Jay on this.

I enjoyed the PTB Series, and have read it several times.

The Acorna series left me feeling very disappointed, it was waaaaay too long and I felt it had been milked for all it was worth. I very nearly gave up after/during the 3rd book, but thought I better read the others purely because I had spent the money.

As Tony said the Crystal series is a must, total enjoyment from beginning to end. :ok:

To bad they don't have a *Rent a book* club like they do with the movies where you can order them by mail and drop them into a pre-paid envelop like you can with movies now a days!! That would solve a few problems.. and keep it at a low cost would be better... :2cent:

How do you have money to pay for Internet? Or how do you get on?

As far as series of Anne books go, I think it just depends on what you like and your perspective. I love her books and yet found some are just not as interesting to me as others. Like Doona.....I can get into it, sorta. But I would NEVER say don't read it; it just wasn't my total fav.

Thank goodness there's something for everyone! :)

Read them for yourself. you might be pleasently surprised. I never take the word of someone else.. well hardly ever.. but really.. what one person might not like, someone else just might find wonderful!! If you don't like it that's fine but if you do then you can get excited about having that many more books to read and you might feel like you found a new friend to keep up with.

Personally I loved the books and can't wait for the next one to come out. I just have to remember that they are NOT Pern books.. it's a different seriers all together. But one I find good reading.. :2cent:
