View Full Version : 5th Annual Southern California Midsummer Gather

Sharon
9th January 2006, 05:19 PM
Well folks it seems to me it's about time to start planning the next gather. :frolic:

When shall it be?
Sunday June 18th 2006 or Sunday June 25th 2006.
The 18th is Father's day, so we might want to take that into consideration.

Where shall it be?
The usual place? The Forest Shelter at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley?

Purpura
9th January 2006, 06:39 PM
Purp Giggles. "/If/ Chris and I are off the 18th, What would you do? give him a necktie for Father's Day *teases then goes serious* Have to see what our schedules're gonna be like..."

Earthmother
12th January 2006, 04:19 AM
Either Sunday is fine by us... since we would rather be with the gang on Father's Day then anywhere else.

Mile Square Park is perfect for us... the boys love it... and we know where it is. :D

I will bring my usual and whatever else is needed.

Purpura, do you guys want a copy of the pictures Rod took on cd... if so, then pm me you home addy...

Sharon, did you get your cd... I meant to call and let you know I mailed it off but life just keep me going.

Purpura

:fiendmom: I'll pop the message both here, and AMOM so you'll find it both places :)

Earthmother
16th January 2006, 04:08 AM
Got the message and will try to send out cd sometime this week. :D

Sharon
16th January 2006, 08:19 PM
Dena, I recieved the CD last thursday and was going to email you but I forgot. :blush2:

Maybe we need to give MHB and Crystal a ringy-dingy and see what date is good with them.

Most of the barbecue items will be on skewers this next time. There wasn't a single skewer of the Teriyaki chicken left last gather. I'm thinking Teriyaki Chicken Skewers and another type so we have a variety of chicken flavors. Maybe some salmon skewers, that might be interesting.

Hi Folks,
The 11th or 25th is fine for us. Let me know when it's going to be and I'll go get the reservation. We're safe up till Mid-March as far as booking goes. Seems that the Forest Shelter is becoming a very popular place for group picnic again.

Aside from the usual eatting utensiles, plates, napkins, and cups: I'll bring ice and drinks. Just let me know what drinks people prefer so there's something for everybody.

Sharon
19th January 2006, 04:39 PM
MHB....the 11th? Huh? I take it the 18th wasn't good for you.

I have no problem with the 18th, but it is Father's Day. And we had other plans in mind for that particular day.

I'm sorry to say our computer tower died, and that's why I haven't contacted any one lately. We just got the new one up and running and I'm still putting all the past info into it. Broke down and got Paint Shop Pro X.

Earthmother
13th February 2006, 03:34 AM
:sorry: to hear about the computer MHB... that is never fun. Good luck with all the restoration work.

Purpura, I still need to send the disk out to you hopefully before this gather.

Has anyone asked Our Treeclimbing Ruathan if the 18th is conveniant for him?
Because I was also thinking that he may want to spend that particular day on his own with his little Anime Artist. Then again maybe it would be an excuse for the two of them to go someplace together and have some fun. (I don't really recall how much they played with the Jumbo Jenga set.)

By the way has anyone heard from Paul and Cindy? Sadly I haven't called either of them, and Shirley mentioned they may be moving to Oklahoma soon!

Cindy has moved to Oklahoma. There is a thread about it at the PF site.

Thanks JJ for the update on Cindy... Are they together MHB? I know Sonya and Dave hooked up... do we now have a second couple we brought together. ;) D)

Silver
3rd March 2006, 08:08 AM
only the second?

Earthmother
4th March 2006, 07:25 PM
only the second?

Who physically met at the gather then hooked up... that we know of... and Paul and Cindy is iffy because no one has confirmed it. :D

BTW, along with a regular salad... I plan to bring this yummy Brocolli salad my mom made for me.

Less than four months away.

Sharon
4th March 2006, 10:53 PM
Broccoli??? :yuk:

Ok so I'm more meat orientated than veggie orientated.

As for our Treeclimber, Pam usually liaisons with him, so we need to pm her over at MoM and bring her into the loop.

The reason I had against the 11th is that usually there are graduations and things in the early part of the month, and later had worked better in the past. But if you have tentative plans for Father's Day and the 11th is okay with other people, I guess it's doable.

Masterharper Bridget
6th March 2006, 12:54 AM
18th would work for us. Plans aren't yet set as far as that goes. Just like to hear if anyone else would have a problem before I book the site.

By the way We don't want to forget there is a Renaissance Pleasure Fair coming up yet too. April 8th through May 21st Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 6pm. at the Santa Fe Dam Recreational Area in Irwindale. the web site for it is :
http://www.renfair.com
Click on the Southern California button at the left hand side of the screen.

Sharon
6th March 2006, 01:10 AM
If time permits, I'd love to go to the Renfair this year. I haven't been since like 1980 when it was still in Agourra.

:rofl2: you and ds#1 about Broccoli right now... of course he loved it less than a year ago... kids! The salad is yummy, but I will have my regular salad too and I plan on trying to bring a sweet too.

I started a June Gather thread over at MoM and asked about the date. We are fine about either date.

We would love to go back to the Ren Faire this year... who knows maybe I will be able to work out a costume... a big maybe. :eek2: :D

Oh and it's official we're having things on skewers. Maybe even veggie things! :eek2:

And you do remember this is the gather I usually use everyone as guinea pigs for the bread recipes I'm going to enter into the Orange County Fair?

Sorry to edit this for bad news, but due to circumstances not really within anyone's control, Purpura and I may NOT be able to be at the gather. It's possible we'll have to be out of town on the date of the Gather.

Well dragonpoo! Hopefully you'll be able to make it, let's see how things go.

I asked over at Mom, but do we want to have a trivia quiz (similar to Halloween Quiz Game)? And do we want to do white elephants gifts?

It's looking less and less likely, unfortunately. This is a trip that basically we have to make, for personal reasons. We wish our friend and her daughters could come here for a visit during the time of the gather, but it's not likely to happen. Maybe she can come out here for the autumn gather, though.

I had to order it through Amazon, although I usually prefer B&N, but they don't carry it. There have been several books I wanted to get that B&N didn't carry.:banghead:

Just checked B&N online and they do have it. Whoopsy.

I'll be sure to bring it.

I have 40 pounds of charcoal in the trunk of my car.

I had gotten some trivia off the internet, then I remembered that someone had once given me a small boxed set with 3 trivia books in it. The subjects...literature, movies, history & Geography. Those will save some time and effort. Got lots of little prizes for the trivia quiz.

Purp, MHB, Crystal and I all go early (8ish) to begin setting up. If you don't mind going early one of us should probably be able to give you a lift. Of course, we'll put you to work too, so be warned. ;)

Everybody ready for Things on Skewers?

Mom may or may not get the bread made, she forgot to feed the sourdough starter. She'll do it when she gets home from work, but that puts her behind timewise.

Purpura
24th June 2006, 05:20 PM
SoCalGatherers:
One day more.
Another day, another destiny,
This neverending road to Mile Square Park.
These men and women who seem to know how to have a good time will surely come to the food table a second
time.
One day more.

Bread to Sharon:
I did not live until today.
How can I live when we are parted?

Gatherers:
One day more.

Purpura To Clbeilby:
Tomorrow you'll be working away.
And I wish you were able to come here.

ClBeilby:
One more day to get more pay

Purpura and Clbeilby:
We will see each other later.

Sharon's bread:
One more day until I get eaten!

Sharon's Sourdough bread:
I was born to be with you.

Sourdough Bread Starter:
What a life I might have known.

The grills at Picnic Shelter 1:
And I swear I will be hot so true.

Giant Chocolate chip cookie:
But Todd never saw me there.

Gatherers:
One more day before the Gather!

Purpura:
Do I follow where Dragonlady goes?

Dragonlady:
And yes my hubby will be driving. (:P :fiend: Mom)

Dragonlady's Ds1 and 2:
Shall I join my brother there?

MHB:
When our party begins to form,

Crystal:
Do I stay, or do I do an emergency supply run?

Sharon:
Will you take your place with me?

Chorus:
The time is now.
The day is here.

Gatherers:
One day more!

Trees and Swingsets:
One day more til the adults play
We will get climbed on like no tomorrow.
We'll be ready for these people,
They will have a really good time!.

Gatherers:
One day more!

Crystal got her webcam for her birthday. So now with any luck we may be able to find a free wireless connection near the park that we can use for an online cyberchat durring the gather. Let you all know when we are sure. It's a big if though so don't count on it just yet.

Masterharper Bridget
25th June 2006, 05:41 AM
As of right now it seems that we will have online access at the park. So if you want to get in on the fun with us, we will be going on-line through MSN Messenger. Just let us know by e-mail, or post here, if your in and we'll see you ( or rather you'll see us ) about noonish our time.

Sharon
25th June 2006, 02:13 PM
:gaah: I'm running late. When my alarm went off, I got up with a hellacious sinus headache. Had to get that managed before I could do much of anything.

The bread did not get made. However if you read this in time Purpura, bring a small cooler with you. I have the sourdough starter that Chris wanted, it's in a container and should be kept chilled. If we put it in your cooler when you get there, then we won't have to remember it later.

I will be needing an assistant, I wasn't able to get all the meat onto skewers, du to space problem with containers and coolers. It was better to leave some of it bagged in marinade.

The veggies won't be going on skewers, I've got my grill basket packed.

Things on skewers....
Teriyaki chicken
Citrus based marinaded chicken
Teriyaki salmon
beef strips marinaded with Lowery's Lime & tequila marinade. (Good stuff)

Veggies grilled in basket....
tomatoes,
red bell peppers
zucchini
mushrooms
onions

See you all in a few hours. Gotta get a shower & stuff.

Okay we are on for our 1st Internet Gather Test Group.
dragonrider23@hotmail.com around noon our time

Purpura

I don't know where a cooler could be Sharon, so don't worry/worry  about the starter for Chris. He went off to work a few minutes ago so I can't ask him what could stand in for a cooler, since the last time we used one we borrowed one off my inlaws. I know he still would want it... Hmmm I'm about to pester my :fiend: mom though and see if I could borrow some space in hers and then remember it when she brings me home later.

Purpura

Wow that was fun. A good time was had by all except a little bit when Dragonlady's DS#2 got a bump from falling off a borrowed scooter. Murphy brought two granddaughters and a daughter in law. There was trivia and things on skewers by Sharon, and MasterHarper Bridget was going to try to have three sea serpents float suspended by helium balloons for a flying dragon race. One nearly took off with the BREEZES that were blowing around. She decided not to have a race with the sea serpents after all and the three serpents were adopted by the DSs 1 and 2 and myself. Trivia prizes were bookmarks, pencils, necklaces and the cutest little squirty ducks. Pirates and devil ducks.

Hey Sharon we should send one of each to Dux! Heh

Earthmother

ds#2 gooseegg has turn into a lovely black eye. If Rod remembers, then I will have him take a picture of it for all to see. Other than that he is running around as if he never fell off the borrowed scooter.

Good time seems to have been had by all, :applause:
(Though there was a bit of a damper on it, as this may well be Pam's last one with us since she and hubby are moving. :tears: :puppyeyes :cry3:

My appologies to any of you who were looking forward to going on line with us, as it turned out there was only one connection we could reach at our site, and it was locked. :irked:
Maybe we'll figure out someway between now and the next one, to make it possible. :swear:
We are not going to give up trying! Some how we will cook up some way to pull it off. :stir:
