Anything amazing happen to you lately? Well, let me tell you all about the amazing thigs that have happened to me recently.

On Monday, I got my first A of the year in my Algebra II class. I was very happy & proud of myself. It's a difficult class [plus my teacher is a nazi] so... It was hard to earn that A.

I am also getting all high B's for grades on tests and quizzes in my Chemistry class! Also incredible!

But, to top it all off, here is the biggie. I live in South Central NH. It's January 12, of the year 2006- is it not? So that makes it winter, right? IT'S 50 FREAKIN' DEGREES! <3333333333

Wow. Seeing that makes me feel like crap. Because i know that as soon as I posted that, my 9-year old sister came running in here to tell us all that she didn't think my cat was alive anymore. She was right. Peanut died today, around 5pm. She was 17. My first pet- I've had her since I was born. My Mum's cat, actually (my mum got her from my dad two months before i was born).

Oh, my gosh. I'm so sorry, Khryssie. :hugs: I feel for you - I lost my rabbit Zoe in late '05.

:hugs: Khryssie I remember when I lost my Cookie cat... It was when I was a teenager... and Cookie passed away in front of my parents' bedroom. I had been doing my homework at the dining room table... and heard her coughing...I called her name- She didn't come... and later my Mom came to tell me that she and Dad found Cookie... Mom was about to cry when she came to tell me...

If you remember how your Peanut was while you were growing up, she will be alive in your heart forever... Nothing can take her place, but other pets will come close to doing that... Every pet when they pass may leave a hole but it is filled with love and memories and that's what counts...

My cat Pepper will be 17 in August.

Something new and exciting? Well, actually yes. We are hopefully buying a new house! My family has lived in the same place on the CT shore for almost 200 years, but in the past 4 years the taxes have increased so much that we can't afford to live here anymore. So, we're selling this place for a nice tidy sum and getting "out of Dodge" (old cowboy movie reference ;) ) It is sad in a way. I'll miss looking at the ocean, but where we are going is out in the woods with a lovely pond all our own! The new house has ten rooms, one of them being a beautiful sun room with lots of windows and skylights! So, I'll be busy packing I hope in a couple months, when we can get this sold and on our way, not far away (about 10 miles) but inland where the tax rates are more stable. They still go up, but not double and triple in one year! :eek2:

Double and triple in one year?!?! :faint:

What are the tax rates for? Are they like our Council Tax, to pay for local amenities etc?

Priscilla

Our taxes pay mostly for the local public schools - Kindergarten through 12th grade. That is what the lions share goes to, followed by local road upkeep, trash collection, etc. And, the amount you pay in tax each year only goes up when the properties are "re-evaluated" about every 4 to 6 years. However, since the evaluation is based on how much the town deems your property would be worth "if" you sold it, your taxes tend to only go up and up if you live on the desirable shoreline. Keep in mind also this is only LOCAL tax, for the town you live in, not State or Federal taxes, which have to be paid as well! *faints*

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. Cold weather indeed. I read 50* and froze to my chair.

Sorry. I live in Texas. It's been mid-60s to mid 80s the entire "winter".

And it's been cold andhumid at the same time. Is that a possible weather condition? Well, it is here.

I have some good news. My bf has gotten the job with Toyota. He will go for training in Alabama whenever they tell him. :woohoo: I will be able to get the car I want with the discount he'll get. And, we'll finally be able to move into the apartment we've been wanting. And later, we may be able to put the payment down on a house of our own. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

On a sadder note, our beloved Hatchet (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b321/hatchetsbane/HatchetDoggyDogg021.jpg), a sable Shetland Sheepdog, was hit by a car. To make it worse, it was my mom's car. She didn't see him when he ran in front of the truck, which he'd never done. He died shortly after. :(

And my mom's show yearling colt, Buster (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b321/hatchetsbane/MomandBuster3a.jpg), died due to colic that twisted his bowels. He had to be put down. :(

Wow! Let's see if I got all this right.

Congrats to Khryssie for her amazing grades! Good Work!
Congrats to Pris on the new home - I know what you've been going through the last few years with your house. It's a shame you have to move, but it sounds like you found a great place. It is really pissy that the government is taxing you because some rich people decided to move into the area driving up home prices. :irked:

:sorry: to Khryssie and Bane over the loss of your pets. A good pet is more than a frined - it's a family member. :hugs:
Welcome back to Bane!!!! I missed you!!!
