Pern Dragons are good, other fantasy dragons can go either way.

It depends on the context. They can be either, just like people.

As everyone else has said, there is no "definitive" dragon, they can be either, depending on what you're reading or watching, or whatever you want them to be.

It depends on the culture. You know, as in "arts and belief systems that arise in a certain geographic area"? Not the stuff at the bottom of your yoghurt pot.

I, however, see them as Neither. Of course they're not real (and trust me - the first person to squeal "BUT THEY ARE!" will get the trademarked "You need psychological help" remark), and I look upon them as any other aspect of religious mythology in that they have either a metaphorical status or have distinct personalities.

I really hope you, Dragongirl, are either a child merely clinging to some feeble inner hope that still lingers long past welcome- or that you are kidding. Either of those are the ONLY acceptable excuses for claiming that dragons are real.

Those things are really vicious! I've seen National Geographic specials about them over the years, as well as other specials as well. Isn't their saliva so disgustingly vile that they just bite their prey and then wait a bit for it to die from the bite?! Yuck!!! Now, other dragons? It definitely depends on who's writing about them. I like all types, and I enjoy the malevolent ones just as much as the "wise and venerable". Heck, now that I think about it I almost prefer the evil ones, adds a bit of spice to the story line!

I'm with Camilla. Pernese dragons are always benevolent - - it's the riders that can be evil and psycho.

"Four men stood in a knot around the Star Stones of Fort Weyr. The sun was just above the horizon, casting harsh shadows of early dawn at winter's end. Each man wore the presigious shoulder knots of Wey--"

Hey, this is going to be as much torture for the one reading it as for the victim... :erm: Screw that. *gets an audio CD and duct-tapes the headphones to Rabble's head*
