I'm trying to find out where I can locate the various different short stories about Pern. I have The Girl Who Heard Dragons and A Gift of Dragons, but I would like to be able to find "Weyr Search" and any other Pernese short stories not found in those two collections. I would really appreciate it if anyone can tell me where to look for those I've not read.

You'll have a *very* hard time finding Weyr Search, its very difficult to get ahold of. But I think its basically part of chapter 1 in Dragonflight. Or so I've been told. Theres also 5 short stories in 'Chronicles of Pern: First Fall.' There is Nerilka's story, but I think that's more of a Nevelette. The newest short story is 'Beyond Between' included in Legends II.

I'll suggest the usual suspects: "Get Off the Unicorn" has a short story about K'van's impression, and the DLG has a short about F'lessan's impression.

I don't know about "Weyr Search," but my copy of "Dragonflight" says that it was originally published as "Dragonrider" (in a shorter form, I don't know if that means short story or serial) in Analog magazine.

Good luck! You'll need it... ;)

There's also "Runner of Pern" in Robert Silverbergs "Legends", and "Beyond Between" in "Legends 2". Then the Story of F'lessan's impression in "Dragonlover's Guide to Pern". Oh and "The Smallest Dragonboy" in Anne's "Get Off the Unicorn"

Most of the short stories have been collected into two anthologies. The first two short-stories she wrote, "Weyr Search" and "Dragonrider" were combined to create the first parts of Dragonflight. Save your money and get them in this form

Chronicles of Pern: First Fall is a set of four short-stories...

"Survey P.E.R.N"
Set 150 years before Dragonsdawn, the origional explorers of Pern (Pre-Landing)

"The Dolphin's Bell"
A story of the 2nd Crossing (1st Pass)

"Ford of Red Hanrahan"
Story of the founding of Ruatha Hold (1st Pass)

"The Second Weyr"
Story of the founding of Benden Weyr (1st Pass)

"Rescue Run"
The FSP *did* return to Pern, but...

A Gift of Dragons

"The Smallest Dragonboy"
The story of K'van and Hath (9th Pass)
Previously published in Get off the Unicorn

"The Girl Who Heard Dragons"
The story of how Aramina came to be in the Weyr (9th Pass)
Previously published in the anthology The Girl Who Heard Dragons (it is the only Pern story in the GWHD anthology)

"Runner of Pern"
A view of a previously unknown part of Pern, the messenger services (9th Pass or Long Interval)
Previously published in Legends

"Ever the Twain"
A story of Search and Impression (2nd/3rd Pass?)
Origional for the collection

-------------------

And, as mentioned, "The Impression," the story of F'lessan's Impression, is in the Dragonlover's Guide and a new Moreta story "Beyond Between" is in Legends II.

Rumor has it that Anne is writing a new short about the end of Thread, the last Threadfall. I don't know how accurate that rumor is, I haven't heard any more about it recently. It could just be wishful thinking.

Nerilka's Story is indeed a novelette, not a short story

Not too hard to find Weyr Search as it is also published in several books/paperbacks. Might be hard to find the Analog with it yes :) But as said, it is part of Dragonflight, so as a story it isn't important, just froma collectors point of view.

Do you know exactly which books in which it's published? I didn't know they were available anywhere outside of the Analog.

I stumbled across it in some random anthology with "Dragons" in the title... edited by Patricia McKillip, maybe, or some similar name. Not very helpful, I know, but if it rings any bells?

I look throught any anthology I find with "dragons" in the title, but I haven't found "Weyr Search" yet. To tell the truth, I'm not too concerned with finding "Weyr Search" or "Dragonrider" as long as I have "Dragonflight."

Unfortunately, it does not contain Beyond Between. That's only in Legends II.

It does have The Smallest Dragonboy, Runner of Pern, Ever the Twain, and The Girl Who Heard Dragons.

I'm planning to ask for A Gift of Dragons for Christmas. I hope it can be ordered through a UK bookshop. I haven't actually looked. I'd like both that & Dragonlovers Guide to Pern :)
