Frappr is a site that lets you create online maps. You say where you are and leave a message and you appear on the map!
I made one for the KT! *Hides and hopes she doesn't get wrong*

I don't see the pin selection. I see the other stuff though. Maybe it is a browser issue? It's beneath the main map. When you're in your account, click on the tab on the far right that says "KTers," so that you're looking at the map with all the pins on it, and a members list to the right of that. Scroll waaay down below the map, and you'll see Recent Photos; below that, you'll see "Step 1 -- Add yourself to this map," and next to that, "Step 2 -- Invite friends to this map." The blue and red pins are in Step One.

By the way, if you guys like this, you'll *love* Google Earth (http://earth.google.com/) (you can get a demo of what it looks like by selecting "hybrid" or "satellite" mode on the Frappr map)-- which appears to be what powers Frappr. Anyone else here use it? It's one of my favorite programs.

I played around with it for a while. Then I dropped it when the new wore off. (Yeah, easily bored here)I do a lot of driving long-distance, so Google Earth is really helpful to me when I'm going to be driving somewhere I've never been to before. If it's an urban or suburban area, the map is usually detailed enough that I can visually explore the neighborhood, or see what I'm going to be dealing with in terms of exit ramps and major intersections. So even if I'm not just using it as a toy (the Grand Canyon, by the way, is AWESOME on GE), I like to have it around as a tool. Thus, I don't get bored with it. :>

Anyone else here use it? It's one of my favorite programs.I use it all the time. If you go to Licking, Missouri and start out west (left) on hiway 32, you can see the prison where I work. There's a big, almost D-shaped drive around the perimeter, and at the opposite end from the hiway entrance, on the other side of the drive, you can see a blue rectangle jsut above a white rectangle. The white one is the basketball/handball courts, and the blue one is housing unit 7, where I work. Hi!
Now switch to "hybrid". Continue west on 32 to Van Cleve Drive. Here's where the map is a little off. It shows the road going straight down the page and then making a left turn. But where the white road disappears under the trees at the white rectangle is the true end of the road. See the white ribbon running off to the right and down at an angle? That's my driveway. My house is a little further down than the bend in the other road.
Can't remember how to do a screen shot.

Another big Google Earth fan here.
Alas, my present address is in an are where the resolution is pretty poor, but lots of other places are mapped in great detail. For example, the pictures of Edmonton in Canada were obviously taken during the spring breakup...you can actually see individual blocks of ice in the river!
One of my favourite places (if you haven't explored it) is the USS Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor. You see the memorial straddling the wreck, tourist boats arriving...but (most interesting) the outline of the wreck underwater, including looking straight down the funnel.

Funny how all the Canadians are from Alberta. Didn't we used to have a girl from the Northwest Territories? For the life of me, I can't remember her name now.
There were a couple people from back east on here at one time. A lady from northern Labrador and a gent who flew helicopters for the air force. There were also a couple people from B.C. One from Kelowna for sure. I guess they didn't make the last big move with us.

Funny, I did the satellite thing and zoomed it as far as I could go, then realized that I was NOT looking at my town. It was really a bit to the southwest of where they put me. If you look at the town with the three blue lagoons to the northwest of if, a little to the southwest of my balloon marker, you'll see my town.

You can manually move your marker to the right place Leah :D
You're lucky, it doesn't zoom in hardly at all on Aus or NZ :( (haven't tried other countries)

I finally figured out how to movemy marker. Now it sits within feet of my house, if you put the map on satellite or hybrid.

I moved mine, so it's at least NEAR my house in my city. #4 looked at the map, and said, "Why, the lagoons are so close! We could WALK to them!"
As if:
1. There was ANY location here that she couldn't walk to.
2. We would WANT to. They are used for wastewater from the slaughterhouse. They smell like offal.

I was surprised that over 30% are male!
Does anyone else who got their own frappr map think that the name of the window when you load it 'Frappr - My Frappr' reminds them of 'Captain, my Captain" ? I think that every time!!

Frappr now has a small chat room added into the side of your groups map, and if you're logged in and talking, it will load the window/location of the person who talks - fun!! :D

I'm put in on Darwin, even though technically I don't live there at the moment. I'm going to see if maybe I can fine-tune my location with zooming and stuff... Probably not, but it's worth a shot.

I don't know about Darwin, but with zooming etc. I found I could get our location almost down to the street!
Hmmm...I should check Darwin and see if I can find the hut by the yacht club where I spent a LOOONNNGGG afternoon drinking ice cold beer and eating Balmain Bugs under the palm trees!

I was able to put the marker on my house!!! :D Last time I checked there they barely zoomed in on where I lived at all - I think it went to 3 or 4 zooms and then came up with 'sorry can't go any closer'.

Edited photo and location. It's funny, because I put my marker exactly where my townhouse is -- but the aerial photo Google is using is old enough that my neighborhood is still only partly built! There's a whole new complex to the right of mine, but in this shot, it's still only dirt. Really funny.
And what's the deal with me being the only North Carolinian (per se)?

I tried, but I can't get it to load properly. I got as far as "Are you in auckland,ni,nz" No! I'm 200 kilometres south of there! As for zooming in, the whole North Island simply disappeared. :banghead:
