Ok what dominates your DVD collection? any particular series or Genre? or do you have a mixed and varied collection from all corners of the DVD spectrum :D

i'll kick off with a summary of my perversions ... sorry i mean taste
-----------------------------------------------------------------
All discs bar 1, are region 2 or region free/0

My DVD collection is Dominated by an almost complete collection of the Stargate SG1 collection, i'm missing a couple of DVD's from the first 2/3 series, which i bought individualy before they started doing the box set thingy, and i've got all box sets up to the most recent Box set release.

Another overwelming shadow is my Farscape collection. its not anywhere complete , with several gaps in series 3 and only 1 set from series 4, but its on my priority aquisition list

Babylon 5 series 1-4 .. i'm just counting the days till payday when i can afford series 5! :bouncy:

after that my collection becomes much more ecclectic with a wide assortment of movies and comedy, with a sprinkling of music dvd's

as i said above ... (somewhere)
i have one region 1 disc (bill and teds excellent adventure) which i bought on import many years ago purely to test my dvd players multiregion capability ... and because i love the bill and ted films ;)

Ooh, I'm jealous of that Stargate SG-1 collection... I want to get those, but the cost so much!

My collection is mostly Marvel comic book movies, all 3 Jurassic Park, then there's Dinosaur, Tarzan, Reign of Fire, Tomb Raider, The Princess Bride, and a few others. My to get list is LOTR trilogy, I Robot, The Day After Tomorrow, Seabiscuit and so many others.

I have LotR, both the standard and the extended editions.
Lady Chatterley (Sean Bean)
Crimson Tide
A Perfect Murder
A Walk on the Moon (region 1)

Not very big yet, my collection. :( I would love to have B5 and MacGyver (first season out soon).

Hmmm, I used to have quite a few videos, but left most of em behind in NZ, so my DVD collection is small - so far I've got;

The Day After Tomorrow
Willow
Harry Potter box set
Scooby Doo 2
Pirates of the Caribbean
50 First Dates
Robbie Williams: What We Did Last Summer

Can't think of any more, but I too am oh so jealous of your Star Gate collection H!! I also really want to get LotR extended box set, I can't even hire out the extended version of the RotK from DVD shops, not sure why, so I'll have to buy it to see it...

DVDs? I don't trust them. They're a tool of  .

My VCR works, and I'm happy with that. Am I the only one here without a DVD player?

Hardly. Rental stores in Finland are phasing out VHS tapes. They still have old movies on VHS, but most chains are no longer taking in new movies, or are at least discussing phasing them out.

lets face it

Video tapes are going the way of the Do Do and the Audio Tape ...

it is becoming a dying breed :fiend:

The problem with VHS is the quality!! It's terrible, especially compared with what you get with DVDs nowadays, the special features etc.
I also hate that some of the older movies aren't out on DVD, so something that might have been rare to find on video, is now impossible to find on DVD (I've been looking for the movie Moving for years, and also the Fluppy Dogs)

We have a wide and varied DVD collection which drives me mad because it's so awkward to genre'ise :irked:

We've got a few collections as such... Gay themed films, most of swhich end up being costly and subtitlted but are usually a fair watch. Sci-Fi, of which we have plenty make a up a good selection. Some series, such as CSI and Dark Angel, Friends and Will & Grace adorn some shelves and we have a fair few comedy television shows too... Ab Fab, Brittas Empire, The High Life, Smack the Pony and such...

A real mix and taing up far more space than I ever imagined! I thought the idea was they would take less room than vids...

I had a look through our collection and the majority are action/adventure (Pirates of the Caribbean, Dante's Peak, The Mummy series, Godzilla, Tremors, all 3 of them :D). We've also got comedy (Shrek, Down Periscope, Monster's Inc.) a few musicals (Grease), SciFi/fantasy (Lord of the Rings, the Dark Crystal), westerns (I'm a John Wayne fan  and hubby likes Clint Eastwood) and family shows (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the Great Race)

We've got a rather large collection of vhs movies as well. The only problem with cd rentals, here at least, is that they get damaged too fast. A friend of mine had to go back 3 times and finally took out vhs because all the cds were scratched so badly they couldn't be used.

I have a DVD player (got it for Christmas last year), I just don't use it. :tilt: I think I've watched about 4 DVD's on it that I borrowed from friends and family. (Pirates of the Caribbean, Fellowship of the Rings, Twin Towers and How to lose a guy in 10 days.) I'm just not a big movie person.

I'm a tv junkie. :shhh:

We have dozens of horror DVD's - DH's fave, but I can't watch most of them. (Shudder) Plenty of fantasy/adventure/sci-fi. A smattering of Disney and "chick fliks" for me. Buffy (all seasons) and Angel (almost complete) I got dh the first season of Millenium for Christmas - I had forgotten how dark that series was. Two seasons of CSI, the first of Quantum Leap (one of dh's gifts to me). Scooby Doo and some other older cartoons. We have a LOT of DVD's - dh would much rather wait and buy them to watch at home.

Our collection is varied: From DR WHO and Andromeda to Disney to John Wayne, to those my daughter considers "hers" (episodes of Dragontails, Strawberry Shortcake, both Scooby Doo movies) We do have all the LOTR and all the Harry Potters so far.

I'd love to see Dragontails - I only ever heard of them and saw pics of them online, they've never been on TV that I've seen, that's a cartoon I'd like I am sure of it! :D

Trust me this is not bragging, but more of a lament. We have over 1000 DVDs upstairs, but that is because I review DVDs. About 1/3rd have been purchased and the rest are review copies sent by studios. We have a large collection of sci-fi and would say have 98% of what has been mentioned by everyone else. We also have a load of drivel, because what you get sent for reviewing is not all good.

I probably handle $25,000 to $30,000 worth of discs each year and pass many discs on to other reviewers.

How did this happen? Well my husband is a tech toy freak and before DVD was even a reality he was excited about it and started a DVD forum and website in Australia. We had one of the first 4 DVD players bought into the country and believe me it was waaaaayyy more expensive than players are now. There were only 7 discs available in the world at the time. We have gone through about 20 DVD players since. When DVD was released in Australia the studios approached us and asked if we would like to review discs. We have been doing this ever since. It is not all fun as you have to watch films with a critical eye and write about them afterwards. Sometimes this is a chore. Films that are merely good or okay are the hardest to write about as there is nothing outstanding. It is much better when something is brilliant or pure C**p, cause then you have something to talk about :D

I have over 30 discs sitting here waiting for review at the moment and I am so busy I don't know when it is going to happen. Of course the release date is what gets one moving.

Believe it or not I went and bought a movie the other day, even though I have all these to review. Sometimes you have to just go out and get what you want.
