My other favourite author :)

I've read the Darkover series, all the Avalon books, Firebrand (a great retelling of the Troy saga from Kassandra of Troy's point of view), The Magic Flute and many of her short stories.

The Darkover series would have to be my favourite of them all, despite being the latest of those I've read. The world absolutely fascinates me. Hawkmistress would have to be my favourite book of the series.
Marion died several years ago, but her worlds are still being written. I must say that I enjoy the new Darkover books (written by Deborah J Ross from plans/notes written by Marion before her death) just as much.

by the way, I'm still trying to collect the Darkover Anthologies. If you ave any that you're willing to part with, please PM me with the titles you have - I have some, but not many.

I remember the first time I read The Mists of Avalon .... I was a senior in Hign School, and just found it so easy to slip into the world MZB painted with her words.

I love here Darkover series. I haven't read the Avalon books because I'm just not that interested in Arthurian fiction. I did enjoy her Rift series though...probably should re-read that...it's been a while.

Emmy, I think they are re-releasing many of her Darkover books in paperback. I've been slowly collecting them myself. :ok:

I've only tried one of her books, I think it was Ghostlight. I didn't like it at all and didn't finish it.

Yeah, and there are actually new Darkover novels still coming out, cowritten. (They're actually *really* good, which surprised me.) The rerelases are mostly omnibus volumes--a few sucked, but most are good. The only old ones I haven't found reprinted are The Planet Savers, The World Wreckers, and Rediscovery... I'm thinking 'omnibus,' anyone know?

Also, does anyone know what happened to Alanna Alar? She had all these rare talents, was supposed to do nasty stuff to Darkover, and Marguerida was having all these visions... and then the series ends.

Of all, I'd say my favorite might be Stormqueen. Very well done.

Mists of Avalon was OK, not absolutely great. The rest of that series was flat and dull.

I enjoyed her early Darkover books. The later ones left me hanging.

I just started reading the series and I love it. I am collecting it too. There is an excellent used & new SF/Fantasy/Mystery bookstore in my area. I have been able to buy a few of her Darkover novels in hardback there. If you would like me to try to find some for you, then pm me.

I'm in the middle of Mist of Avalon - it's a slower read than I'm used to but I'm enjoying it!

Which one would you recommend to read first? Anyone?

I read both FOREST HOUSE and THE LADY OF THE LAKE. MISTS was by far my favorite.
