None of that B.S. crock of crap that the Disney channel tried to pass off as what High School is. That's nothing. This is what it is to be in High School, this is the essence of those hallowed halls that we all walked at one point in our lives. It's a musical, no less, and therefore it will be superior to the everyday life in a high school.

The setting's simple: A small town in Colorado during the present time. The scenes switch to various places about the town but center mainly around the high school and the homes of the five main characters.

The characters: Angie Swanson……………….………………………….Gothic Female
Chris Johnson…………………..……………...…………….Athletic Male
Jamie Scotts………………………………………..Promiscuous Female
Landon Anderson..…………………………………..………..Poetic Male
Clarissa Lafou……………….….……………………………….….Actress
Mr. Robert Watson…………….…………………….Science Dept. Head
Mrs. Janet Stone………………………….…………Theatre Dept. Head
Ms. Katherine Belle……………………………………...English Teacher
Coach Jack Trent………………….Head Coach/ Landon’s Step Father
Mrs. Danielle Trent………………………………..……Landon’s Mother
Mr. Lance/ Mrs. Deborah Swanson…….……………..Angie’s Parents
Mr. Drew/ Mrs. Stacey Johnson…………………………Chris’s Parents
Mr. Joe / Mrs. Gertrude Scotts……………………..…..Jamie’s Parents
Mr. Steve/ Mrs. Misty Lafou…………………………..Clarissa’s Parents
Various High School Students……………..……………As many as ten

I hope you enjoy the show. It will be posted one musical piece at a time and the comments, if you have any, will be posted here ----> Comment? (http://annemccaffreyfans.org/forum/showthread.php?p=367635#post367635) <----

Act One
Scene 1

The scene opens in a classroom with an invisible blackboard downstage. Five rows of 4 desks are spread across the room and a teacher’s desk sits to the far stage left. Only the teacher, MRS. KATHERINE BELLE, stands in the room, looking over her notes on the blackboard. It’s the first day of school after summer break. Mrs. Belle is a woman in her mid-20s, fresh out of college with a master’s in English.

Mrs. Belle: Moving center stage and miming writing more on the board.
All my life
I’ve been stuck
In these little ho-dunk towns.
All my life
I’ve been waiting
For something to come around.
Why doesn’t anything exciting happen to me?

Students begin to enter the room, talking excitedly about their vacations. Each student has its own characteristics but they form groups of 3 based on similarities. Angie Swanson sits in the back right of the class with two other girls with similar black makeup on. Clarissa Lafou sits in the direct center of the room and no one moves to take a seat in front of her but her two fellow thespians sit to either side of her. Next enters Landon Anderson, alone, and he chooses a seat in the back row, far left desk. No one sits next to him. Chris Johnson then enters followed closely by a very clingy Jamie Scotts and two varsity football players. He sits front row, center, horribly upstaging Clarissa.

Angie Swanson: to her friends
All my life
I’ve been tied
To the confines of the rules.
All my life
I’ve tried to break free
And ended looking like a fool.
Why is it that I can never be free?

Clarrisa Lafou: to the entirety of the room, an invisible audience in front of her, and anyone else who would care to listen.
All my life
I’ve been searching
For my destiny.
All my life
I’ve been waiting
To be on center stage.
Why won’t the spotlight hit me?

Landon Anderson: to himself, in a quivering alto.
All my life
Has been dark and dreary
To say the very least.
All my life
Has gone wrong
Reality’s a beast.
Why doesn’t anything go right for me?

Jamie Scotts: to Chris, who isn’t listening.
All my life
I have wanted
A lover like you.
All my life
I have longed for
A love to be so true.
Why are all the hot guys (pause) not into me?

Chris Johnson: to himself, secretively.
All my life
I’ve been pushed and pulled
In all the wrong directions.
All my life
I’ve been waiting
For an alteration.
Why am I me?

All:
All the time
We live the lies
We seek the path
And Fail along the way.
All our lives
We try to fight
But very few succeed.
Why did I turn out to be me?

All our lives
We work to find
Our destinies.
All this time
We’ve been so blind:
Life is not a road,
It’s an ever-flowing stream…

All the paths we’ve been down
All the ways we’ve been blown around
All the turmoil, all the pain
All the triumph, it’s all the same!
That’s just life…

Mrs. Belle taps her ruler against the front desk...
