The Brawn is basically a normal human, that is partnered to a Brainship, and is sorta like a co-pilot/companion to the Brainship, and can go where the Brainship can't in certain situations...

Just in case you were wondering what a Brainship was (hey, if she doesn't know what a brawn is...:p)...

Brainships: Lets start with shellpeople. Shellpeople are like normal humans, but born with such debilitating disabilities that they could not survive without life support. Such people are placed in titanium shells and treated so their bodies don't grow. Their brains are then hooked up to computers so they can run cities, space stations or even space ships. A brainship is thus a shellperson who runs a ship. They quite literally ARE the ship. It serves as their bodies. They control every aspect thereof. A Brawn is a Brainship's physical partner, the "mobile" half of the team. They go where the ship can't and help with passengers and so on.
