....when buying a new/second hand car?

In short, I want to know why you bought what you did, or if you are not yet a car owner, what qualities would make you choose one car over another? :D

I'm testing if you really know what you bought or if the choice was made in much the same way you would choose a new toaster or kettle.

So here goes...

I said reliability but it would ALSO be on fuel economy.. i commute to work everyday as well as travel around the province in both summer and winter.. those 2 things are very important to me :D

I voted price because I can hardly afford *any* car, but I got a good deal on the one I do have. Just about as important though is reliability. If I say I'm gonna be somewhere.......I wanna be there, preferably early.

:sorry: :sorry:

I meant for the poll to be multiple choice but it seems I forgot to make it so...

Could you please list the reasons here if you have more than one?

Would a kind (g)hostie please make it a multiple choice poll if they can?

I have only bought one car and it was second hand... I got it because hubby was buying a new car and was selling his old one. For a first car, it's been great! But none of the reasons above really fit my reasoning for buying it...

It's hard to pick just one. I need the room (got kids?), but I need the safety and reliability too. I prefer something that gets good mileage and has a few necessary doo-dads. We already know our next purchase will be a mini-van. It's impossible to bring along all the things you need for a long road trip, with kids unless you have that kind of room. We like the kind that has the seats that fold into the floor and the DVD player really is a necessity with tow very young children who DO NOT LIKE being strapped in for any length of time.

I was hoping for multi choice here!

Price(Affordability), reliabilty, saftey, gas economy...those are my main points. My next car will probably be red, though. It's just the way it works out forom me: red Doge Omni, grey Spectrum, red station wagon, grey Stratus....

safety and reliability are what I'll look for in an everyday car. In case if its not an everyday car, then HORSEPOWER is all that matters

I didn't vote, but here's why I bought my used Jeep. :D

The price was right.
It was in great condition.
The mileage was low compared to the age of the car (6 years old).
It's only had one owner, I knew them and they kept it in better condition than I probably ever will.
It has 4WD.
It's bigger than a car, but not huge like a Suburban.

I voted for reliability, but safety and fuel economy are also important. I also want my vehicle to look good, and actually my favorite feature in my Volvo is the button on the steering wheel that lets me change the radio station or volume without having to take my hands off the wheel. :ok: Speed is no longer as important as it once was, though. ;)

Reliablility for me. I'm a girl, I have no idea about what goes on under the hood of a car - so I want it to keep running without any assistance from me! :D

I went for Reliability... though I was torn between that an as low a price as possible, boith because i am a student, and cheap nayway!

I also think that there needs to be an insurence group option as well.

You read my mind Dawn, those are exactly why we bought our used jeep. We had a jeep previously and loved it. It handles wonderfully and the mileage isn't too bad. Not as good as a small car, but much better than a big suv. Plus, at the time I was doing a lot of camping and it's hard to pack 5 tents, sleeping bags and food for 15 in a little car. :D

I've really enjoyed driving it. :) I live in the country, so I drive on some pretty rough roads. It's has a much smoother ride than my last car, a little Dodge Colt. ;) It's nice to actually be able to see the road, as well.

I want to get from point a to b and back again.
But that's not why we bought a used Ford Bronco--the price was right and the hubby can play fix it man all he wants on it and he can't really hurt it! :good:
